I think my fish may have crossbred...?
I bought these fish on March 17th.
Within the first two weeks, all of them died except for a molly and a platie.
Now, a week ago today, I found a baby fish.
At the time he looked reddish purplish.
Now that hes growing, he looks like he may have the body of the molly and the coloring of the platie.
The molly is white, and the platie is orange, but I know fish can hold sperm after mating, and that mollies are sometimes orange.
I was wondering if I could have a cross breed, or if its just a mate from the store.
Thanks(:

Live bearers - mollies, platies, and swordtails - can interbreed... also you never know what you're going to end up with unless you have a matching male and female pair only in a tank - and even still you could end up with some funky fish. Usually the females are preggers when you buy them, unless you get them for a store that keeps the males and females separate, which is rare these days - and many places mix up the fish in the tanks to begin with when they sell them.
You should check what's going on with your tank if you lost a lot of fish that soon after buying them, or be very careful where you buy your fish - unless you're starting a new tank and didn't let it run long enough before adding fish to it. Fish in the rasbora family are hearty and great for starting a new tank.
One new sick fish can kill off a whole tankful of fish.

No they cannot cross. If for some reason they did, call the Ornamental fish board since you will have been the first. Chances are your molly was already pregers here.

My sister had a tail. We always blamed the dog but my Mum wouldn't confirm or deny it.
