They stay on earth. Jesus’ says in Matthew 22:14 regarding the Kingdom of the heavens: “There are many invited, but few chosen" and the fact that Jesus spoke of a "little flock".
It is also logical since such ones (144,000) would be take to heaven to rule as "kings" in God' heavenly government or kingdom (you need to get your bible now and read Revelation 20: 5).
The members of a government are logically limited and very small in relation to the population it governs. (For example the population of the United Kingdom is about 50 million but there are only about 1,200 individuals in its government; only one thousand (smaller if we are talking about the central goverment) only ONE THOUSAND in the british government and millions and millions of citizens!!!).
Its the same with Jesus government. Millions and millions of subjects and a small number of rulers.
Now you need to go and get your bible again and turn to Proverbs chapter 2 look down at verses 21 and 22.

(Matthew 24:21, Rev. 7:13,14)
those who are resurrected
(Acts 24:15 John 5:28,29)
will live forever on a paradise earth.
(Psalm 37:29, Eccl. 1:4, Matthew 5:5 John 3:16 17:3)

it was not God's intention when He created man to live in heaven. He made that way possible after the rebellion in the garden of Eden. He maintain His purpose for the earth as mentioned at Ecclesiastes 1:4. at Psalms 37:11, 29 God said that man would inherit the earth. Revelation 14:1,3 mention 144,000 in the heavens. that is a literal number. it goes deeper than what i am typing but that is the short answer for u.

I know you said only the cult itself...however, I perhaps need to point out to you that all liars will have their part in the lake of fire, of burning sulphur...and this is the WORD OF GOD... only you won"t find it in the NWTHS the JW book.
For anyone that is seeking the truth, I would suggest you read what God has to say about His chosen people. They are of Hebrew descent, the Jewish people and He loves them so much that He is sealing 144,000 of them from the 12 tribes of Israel. They are men who have never known a woman and are clean in the sight of El-Shaddai.
The actual number of people who are going to heaven is a great multitude. All Christians know that they are going to Heaven because God has told them, and if JW's were Christian they would be going too, but as they are not, they will go through the Great Tribulation instead and will probably be exterminated amongst the 2/3rds of the worlds population who will die, during the 7 year period.
Read the Word of God, the Holy Bible and find life and truth, especially Chapter 22 when Jesus talks about heaven, and the place He has for all of us.

Because when god made the universe, he only had 1520 metres of fence left over for heaven; so in his infinite wisdom he decided to cap the number of occupants so maintain a population density of 1 head / m^2, to prevent a mans buttocks from inadvertantly comint into contact with the buttocks of another man.
God in his infinite wisdom realised that to do this would require a square heaven to maximise area; so taking a side length of 380m he arrived and the perfect size of about 144000m^2 (calculators werent invented yet and god was tired)
EDIT: decided not to edit

They believe that those referred to as the "Great Crowd" - NWT in Revelation 7:9 depict a very large group of individuals here on earth who survive through the "Great Tribulation" that Jesus spoke of.
"After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands,"
Their reasoning lies in the wording that these are "before the throne" , as opposed to "on the throne". Indicating that they are on earth; God's "footstool" (Is. 66:1).
With all due respect, I personally disagree with their reasoning. The book of Revelation mentions the exact same phrase (translated as "Great Crowd") only twice. The second time it specifically mentions their location:
"After these things I heard what was as a loud voice of a great crowd IN HEAVEN..." - Rev 19:1a New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures

read Zechariah 8: 20-23 the 144,000 are the chosen ones by YH WH, there are 24 elders of all the 12 tribes of Israel. no one cant be saved without salvation from a Jew. read St.John 4:22. If your saved under the name of Jesus, your not going to make it, But under the blood of Yahshua, his true name, through a Hebrew, there is a chance!

Hi there
The 144,000 are mentioned three times in the Book of Revelation:
Revelation 7:3-8 (ESV)
"Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until after we have sealed the servants of God on their foreheads." And I heard the number of the sealed, a hundred and forty-four thousand, sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:
12,000 from the tribe of Judah were sealed,
12,000 from the tribe of Reuben,
12,000 from the tribe of Gad,
12,000 from the tribe of Asher,
12,000 from the tribe of Naphtali,
12,000 from the tribe of Manasseh,
12,000 from the tribe of Simeon,
12,000 from the tribe of Levi,
12,000 from the tribe of Issachar,
12,000 from the tribe of Zebulun,
12,000 from the tribe of Joseph,
12,000 from the tribe of Benjamin were sealed.
”
Revelation 14:1 (ESV)
“ Then I looked, and behold, on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads. ”
Revelation 14:3-5 (ESV)
“ And they were singing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders. No one could learn that song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. For it is these who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins. It is these who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These have been redeemed from mankind as firstfruits for God and the Lamb, and in their mouth no lie was found, for they are blameless. ”
The numbers 12,000 and 144,000 are variously interpreted in traditional Christianity. Some, taking the numbers in Revelation to be symbolic, believe it represents all of God's people throughout history in the heavenly Church.
Others insist the numbers 12,000 and 144,000 are literal numbers and that the 144,000 people who are either descendants of Jacob (also called Israel in the Bible) or who God has given a specifically superior destiny to have a distinct role at the time of the end of the world. Others[who?] believe that the 144,000 are recently converted Jewish Evangelists sent out to bring sinners to Jesus Christ during the 7 year tribulation period. Another view is that the 144,000 are a larger version of the ancient Israelite army, sent out at the end of the tribulation period to kill the ungodly. Preterists think these are Jewish Christians, sealed for deliverance from the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D.
Jehovah's Witnesses distinctly believe that only 144,000 people will be raised to heaven, and will thus spend eternity with God. They do not believe that this number necessarily comes from descendants of Jacob, but from early Christians, and those of Jehovah's Witnesses who profess to be "anointed" (or "spiritual Israel").
Witnesses believe that the 144,000 have been selected by God from the time of Jesus' apostles through to the modern era. They believe that the 144,000 (those having a "heavenly hope") will reign with Christ in heaven, while all other people accepted by God will live forever on a paradise earth (an "earthly hope").
I think that sums it up - hope this helps

My burning question:
the Mormons, 7th day adv and church of Christ are also claiming they are the one who is entitled to the 144k elect.
Should we just allocate/prorate 1/4 to each of them.. So, the JW only get 36,000. ........... I don't still get a decent answer from any one of this groupies
