Menstrual cycle for 5weeks.?

I've been on my period for 5 weeks. The first week was spotting but now it is sort of heavy. It slows down but then out of no where becomes heavy again. I do have an IUD and i asked the nurse about it and she says my body is getting used to it but i wonder if it is more serious. I had a baby 6 months ago. So please help if you can so I can be healthy not only for me but for my child.

Update:

i found out about a week aqo that i am becominq anemic. i tried qivinq blood but my iron was low.

well i know hoe you feel. im on the Depo shot and i have been on my period for almost 3 weeks and the docs say that its normal..but im worried that i might become anemic because of all the blood.. but my cousin had an iud and she had all kinds of problems with it-urinary tract infections-yeast infections..so she got it taken out.i would call the doc and ask if thats normal and if u should be worried.

I have this problem now and it is not dangerous provided that you aren't replacing a pad more than once per hour. Make an appointment to talk to your doctor. I wouldn't rely on a nurse (yes, some of you gals are very knowledgeable, but I've already had a couple of situations where the nurse simply doesn't know enough -she does not have the training).

Go to the DR for sure. I thought they even say, if you have prolonged bleeding after an IUD insertion, go back to the DR. You should be very concerned about your iron levels, and take a supplement. I have my period every 2 weeks, and my DR was concerned about my iron.
