Less busy road between Washington DC and New York?
I am from the UK and will be visiting the US in a few months. Its gonna be weird driving on the opposite side of the road, so I am a bit anxious. I have heard the traffic can be bad on the main route. Is there an alternate way?

Unfortunately not unless you want to be driving for about 10 hours. If you visit Google Maps though and use the 'get directions' tool for the main route, you can then modify the journey by moving around the blue line that appears on the screen. This way, you can locate routes that stay away from main roads as much as possible, but in reality you're still looking at a good few hours on them.
Really it depends on what time and day of the week you're travelling as to how much traffic there'll be, but I drove from New York to DC on a Monday last month and we had next to no trouble with traffic.
If you're really unsure about it though, there are a few cheap coach services available that (if you book) will take you all the way:

I'd recommend something like this as it would allow you to enjoy the journey and relax a little more, without the stress of driving in a foreign country.
I hope this helps :)

noticeably particular your no longer in choose of a central authority company turning a earnings too, however the only form of public transportation to instruct a earnings is toll roads. nonetheless i like to have loose roads, and without rail in in simple terms the Northeast hall we'd might desire to construct greater unprofitable roads or make the government some funds with toll roads. those trains take various autos off of the unprofitable roads. another place Amtrak runs is a payoff to the States that make contributions yet does not in any different case see any provider.
