What would hasten a Lacey Japanese Maple into losing it's leaves this early in the season?

Needed re-potting, but was doing fine. When I planted into the soil, discovered a red ant nest at the bottom of the pot. Have planted within 5' of rosebushes. Are the roots of roses bad for Maple trees?

The leaves withered and only a few live ones remain in the center of the tree. The tree is about 4' high and branches spread from trunk 4'each side. Happened within the past week.

.when you transplant there is an expected shock incurred by the plant especially if there is an unexpected root disturbance.the foliage will come back, .keep it in dampled shade too.keep it watered well for 2 weeks, you should start seeing buds in about 4-6 weeks.the plant is conserving its energy for root development at the moment.

there's another change.... sunlight.... if it's next to roses, which need full sun, and it's come from either inside or a shady porch, then the leaves are fried...

but if there were red ants in the pot, I'll assume it was outside in the pot.... was it in shade then?....

the only lacey maple I know that can take sun is the Garnet and it prefers part shade then, too....

do you know thte name of the tree?....
