Question on Harry Potter, Voldermort, Horcruxes...?

Ok, so I just reread HP and the Chamber of Secrets. I'm a bit confused and yes, I've read the entire series but either I missed something or I'm just reading too much into it. Ok. So in Chamber of Secrets, Tom Riddle says that he decided to preserve his 17yr old self in a diary for future students to find, etc. Whatever. The preserving his self is the party I'm focused on. Anyway, it's later said that the diary is a horcrux. So...who did he kill in order to make that horcrux. Or more specifically, I didn't think he was killing that young or is it ever mentioned? I mean, he didn't even ask HOW to do it until his final year, right? If anyone can shed some light, it'd help. Thanks!

    Here we go..lol

Tom was in his final year when he was 17; it mentions in Book 6 when Harry and Dumbledore visit the Gaunts (in the memory) that Tom revenged against his father's family and also murdered Morfin. One of those murders I believe went towards the horcrux; I think Morfin was his first murder.

He also asked Horace Slughorn how many you could make in his final year, not how to make them. Dumbledore says in book 6 that he believes Tom had already known how to make them but wanted to know what would happen if he made 7. I just read book 6 again that's how I remember so clearly lol.

    Hope that helps! =]

EDIT: The basilisk killed Moaning Myrtle, as she says before she died she saw yellow eyes. And he was in his seventh year at 17 by the way.

I've noticed a few slipups from rowling, ie not explaining things in earlier books and then making it up later in another book

i dont think for the puprpose of the diary he killed anyone in particular, but just killed a part of his mortal soul when he created the horcrux diary.. i think that one in particular was just to make the story work whereas the other ones were deliberate

it's been a while since i read that one (read the whole series twice over)

Source(s): to the person who mentioned moaning myrtle.. she crossed my mind also but : "Moaning Myrtle is the ghost of a witch who haunts the first floor girl's bathroom (and occasionally other bathroom facilities) at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She was a student at the school in the 1930s and 1940s. She was sorted into Ravenclaw house.[2] Myrtle was killed by Slytherin's Basilisk in 1943 on the orders of Tom Marvolo Riddle who had opened the Chamber of Secrets and would later become Lord Voldemort.[1] "

To create a horcrux you dont need to kill anyone, the only reason he killed people to get items was because the only way to posses the more expensive and rare items were to kill the owners. he was already experimenting with horcruxes while in hogwarts, he was kicked out of the school by dumbledore i believe, since dumbledore knew that tom was up to something, and it wasnt really hagrid who killed all those ppl with the giant spider.

Yeah, he was killing that young. It was mentioned in one of the books how he allegedly tortured two other children at the muggle orphanage when he was on a trip to Godric's Hollow, and he hanged a pet rabbit. :(

Maybe it was the rabbit? Although it was the teenage Voldemort that made the diary...hmm.

    Just a guess. I don't know either.

Just finished the series for the first time.

    (: I love it.

Voldemort does not understand. he's attempting to kill Harry through Prophecy, which states: "the single with the means to triumph over the darkish Lord techniques ... born to those that have three times defied him, born through fact the seventh month dies ... and the darkish Lord will mark him as his equivalent, yet he will have means the darkish Lord is acquainted with not ... and the two might desire to die on the hand of the different for neither can stay collectively as the different survives ... the single with the means to triumph over the darkish Lord would be born through fact the seventh month dies ..." And he can not sense while a horcrux is destroyed.

I'm not sure but I think he killed Moaning Myrtle to create that Horcrux. Also, he did made it in his sixth year which, you're right, doesn't make sense.
