what does this mean when you read this passage from the good book? (not so good to the cannaanies?)?

“And the LORD spake unto Moses saying, “Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them the following–When ye are passed over the Jordan river into the land of Canaan, ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and tear down all their high places…And ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein, for I have given you the land to possess it…But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which shall remain shall be pricks in your eyes and thorns in your sides and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell…” –Book of Numbers 33:50-56

btw where are the Canaanites today? (hint no where they have been erased, liquidated, exterminated, etc from existence) have a nice day

Update:

for the slow people out there, the question is "WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN GOD SAYS TO THE ISREALITES TO

Update 2:

    What is a genocide?

They are not the first and surely they will not be the last.

What is a prick in your eyes and thorn in your flesh? Sinners.

The worldly will vex you in the land where in you dwell.

Have a nice day with carnality.

Source(s): There are still people that worship idols and images contaray to the word of God. Who is your Baal? God said tear down their high places. We have to drive them out with the words of Christ.

It means what it says. God sent them to drive out the people inhabiting a land that did not belong to them. It may surprise you but God has chosen many times in history to accomplish his will. We should thank him for allowing our participation in his master plan. Also, remember if you are not a Christian, you ultimately are not inhabiting an Earth that does not belong to you. If belongs to God. One day you will be evicted as well, however if would truly seek the Lord and repent of your sins.....Christ will forgive you and then you could be come one of God's children thus....not being evicted.

They did not wipe out all of the Canaanites - they left many of them there. Part of their culture continued on and in the near future did 'vex' the people 'wherein ye dwell'. This was not a reference to 2009. However, alot of what is discussed in the bible does seem to repeat itself.

    Having a great day, thanks!

Deu 9:4 Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee.

Consider that phrase..."for the wickedness of these nations"...

I've heard many times people complaining because God allows suffering.

Then, when He takes action against the people who are causing suffering, the same people complain that God is cruel.

There is just no pleasing some people....

it means that some "holy men" wanted to conquer some land and they used prophecy as a means of justifying themselves...perhaps this rooted from insecurities that what they were setting out to do was wrong and they knew it, so...it had to come from God...seems like a good way to get things you want...God told me to...it's never worked out to my benefit to say stuff like that when doing good or evil.
