Do you think it well be ok to use a pc?
I'm looking to go to school for graphic design/graphic arts. I really want a Mac, but I know I just might not be able to afford one. The school I'm looking at going to uses Macs. Will it be harder to progress if I get a pc rather than a Mac, or am I better off waiting a year or so and saving up? I just don't want to get a pc and find that it's hard to keep up.

As most everyone else has noted, if the school you are going to is using Macs for the course you will definitely not want, but need the Mac.
I am personally a PC user myself and I like the PC due to the diversity of software available. Now as for Windows 7, I am a computer technician and I have been experiencing numerous problems with it...I do contract work with Microsoft and have been involved in the project since before pre beta and I do not recommend W7 if you do get a PC, at least not at this time (It is only available as the RC version anyway until December). Vista SP2 just came out and has made major improvements in the operating system. If you want some more info on W7 you may use the link below to visit my windows7freesupport.com site.
You mentioned that you were only "looking" at going to that school, perhaps you may want to weigh the option of looking elsewhere for a similar course that is PC orientated.
I do not recommend using LifeHacker or Hackint0sh.Org to place a Mac O.S. on a PC as you will experience numerous problems, especially with updates.

well, it is actually possible to install the mac os on a normal pc. If you were to go this route, i would highly recommend looking at some other people's setups and find a setup that works well for someone then get the same thing. There is some hokus pokus to it, but it can work. Another option is psystar, they make pc "macs". They are in a legal battle with apple so who knows whats going to happen with them, but their store is still open. Otherwise, there are ways to get macs a little cheaper, perhaps ebay or craigslist and also the refurb models available on apple's website.
And at the person above me, what problems have you had with Windows 7 anyway? I have had no problems other than an odd driver glitch from the latest version of nvidia's drivers which i assume will be fixed soon enough. My friend's computer has no problems and he hasn't even restarted his computer since 2 hours after install, more than 2 months ago, and he uses it every single day for multiple things. Plus it seems from everyone's reactions that this is fairly typical for just about everyone that is using the RC's everyone is very excited about it because of how good it is.

I would personally always buy a PC before a Mac. I'm running the new Windows 7, and it is a HUGE improvement upon Vista. I also like the ability to upgrade the hardware on my machine relatively easily which isn't the case with Macs.

Rather than waiting a year longer, you could just get a part time job and earn some extra money to get the Mac you desire. This is your future you're talking about, why put it on hold? There's a saying: "Time waits for no man".

macs are really tailor made for tasks like this. If you must by a computer now, then get a pc but i warn you, you will regret it later on . I would wait a year and save up to get a decent mac, your sanity will thank you!
hoped this helped
