Why did this country bomb Iraq and not North Korea?

I don't understand why we didn't give Saddam the benefit of the doubt as far as WMD goes. We could've spared many lives with this war by allowing the inspectors to do their job. I know he was a tyrant but so is that N. Korean president who is now very defiant and adamant about his nuclear weapons. He does not try to hide this fact but it appears that the world is taking a more diplomatic approach to this issue with North Korea than with Iraq. I wonder if it's because terrorist threat is more prominent in the Middle East than in Korea and that's why we attacked...or perhaps we're hesitant (or diplomatic) because of China and South Korea. What do ya'll think?

Update:

I am not sure if I believe Bush did it for the oil. Basically, I just see two standards. Our political leaders make it very clear they will not tolerate WMD yet they target one country and not the other. North Korea has been a nuclear threat and they flip flop back and forth about their nuclear program. They can't be trusted. I think it is because of China and Russia. We don't want to rock the boat with them perhaps.

Update 2:

Of course no tyrant is going to be completely subordinate. They see a UN inspection as an intrusion. I think Saddam did cave in and allow them to inspect.

Bush wanted to bomb all of the 3 countries: Iraq, Iran, and NK. He wanted to go with Iraq first because it was the weakest country and the benefits of freeing Iraq was huge. Iraq is rich in resources, so it should be able to pay for itself and the war. In that sense, it was for the oil. Also, by invading Iraq, he would surround Iran, making it much easier to attack a more powerful country.

Assuming all is well, he would have went for NK. He assumed that the worl would embrace him liberating Iraq, then support him to invade the other more powerful countries. The problem is that he failed in Iraq, and as a result, never got to Iran or NK.

To attack NK would be a huge mistake because NK has little resources to support itself and would be a huge economic burden on the world, and just cause chaos in China and S.Korea. He would at least need the support of the world before he does that, but never got it due to the failure in Iraq.

Well, look at it this way. We fought N.Korea once before at the cost of thousands and thousands of American lives, and didn't beat them then either. We managed to keep them north of the 38th parraral, but that is all. They are far more advanced in the military then most of you can possibly imagine, and if we bombed them, you most likely wouldn't be alive to ask this question. There is only two countries that N.Korea hate and we are one of them and Japan is the other. Russia and China in the advent of war will not take sides with N.Korea even if they wanted to and they don't. Maybe it is time for some of you younge'ns out there to learn how to duck and cover like I did way back when. You ain't seen bad yet, but its coming

Iraq was considered a threat, if you don't believe me find the statements that leading Democrats made all thru the 90s. Oh and it wasn't us that didn't "allow the inspectors to do their job" If you cared to look Saddam and his people did everything possible to stop the inspectors and finally kicked them out.

Because we were already in Iraq and Afghanistan when North Korea started pushing our buttons, and it would have been unwise to have our military spread out that thin between the two places and be on those two different fronts.

Well I agree about the way the N. Korean guy is being but, I think we didn't bomb N.Korea because if we had done that we probably would have lost many more american lives because they also have nuclear weapons to fight back with u kno?

Because that's who we were told to hate. Because of the actions of twelve men we punished two entire countries, deposed their governments, sent them back to the stone age and have virtually stripped them of any hope they may have had of having a peaceful land.

This is the new America, and people are too stupid to realize that this makes absolutely no sense. Wave that flag in their face and call them un-American if they say anything that questions their leadership. It also helps if you accuse them of not supporting the troops.
