If your personal trainer can't answer your question perhaps you need to find a better trainer.
Why do you have a personal trainer, what goal are you trying to achieve?
Avoid processed sugar, such as candy, pastries and sodas.
Avoid white flour products as these are High in starches, starches unless cooked at the right temp, convert in the body to fat storing sugars.
Chose breads of whole grains with flax seed etc when possible.
Eat plenty of veggies such a broccoli (highly nutritional), peas, celery and carrots.
Proteins are as essential to the body as water. Organic eggs are a excellent source, also goats milk, cheese and Nuts, pecans, peanuts, almonds
Oatmeal is an excellent meal anytime of day, an excellent source of protein(except B12), good nutrition and add son fresh or frozen berries like raspberries or strawberries, and no sugar. Yum
Plain Yogurt, with fresh or frozen berries, and a touch of raw honey if desired, excellent
For supper, lightly floured fish (cod, Salomon or fresh mackerel) fried in olive oil, balsamic rice and steamed broccoli, with a squeeze of lemon, and a dash of sea salt, Oh' my favorite.
Makes me hungry thinking about it I better stop.
