How come during this years Finals,NBC is only talking aboot Crosby?

They keep showing him, talking aboot him...Don't they know that there's other players on both teams?

Get used to that question,I wanted to be the first to ask it....

Real question-In your opinion, who was the most UNDERRATED Wings & or Pens player in their history and who is the most OVERRATED player in their history?

Update:

Okay nobody got my humor on this one except Meercat uno...It wasn't a Crosby question, just getting the first "NBC Crosby question" out of the way.

Update 2:

Capone-I think you just described hell for me..and I thought Newark was bad...lol

College Girl-I hope you're not serious aboot me giving thumbs down? The only time I "thumb down" anyone is when they're spammers.I have even answered a few of your questions.

Oh, you have it so bad Joe...LOL....I can't go to the store...ANY store, ANY gas station, ANY restaurant without multiple "Go Crosby" and "Go Pens" banners strung everywhere. LOL

Most underrated Wing- Chris Chelios. Why? Most fans (especially younger) do not remember him being a premiere Dman so they are ignorant to it. I do not care for Chelios but he is IMO the BEST AMERICAN to ever play the game. They also forget he was the winner of THREE Norris trophies.

Most overrated Wing...I could pick from MANY. I could go with Datsyuk and his .5 points per game playoff resume but many Wings think he is best player in the NHL....but I'll go with Yzerman, many Wings fans believe he was the best captain ever and he wasn't even close....in fact not even the best Wings captain ever!

Most underrated Pen- Maybe Alexei Morozov the way he has been tearing up Russian hockey...I think he won the KHL scoring race this year. Those Samuelsson's were beasts too.

I will go with MARCUS NASLUND though....so underrated that they trade him to Vancouver for Alex Stojanov...of course Marcus went on to score well over 300 goals for the Canucks while Stojanov had TWO NHL goals.

Most overrated Pen- Tom Barrasso. Never was as high on him as many were.....that Pens back to back winning team was STRONG....Mario, Jagr,Recchi, Stevens, Coffey, Mullen, Larry Murphy, Samuelsson, Francis, Trottier etc..........Gee, looking back on it, it was very NYI/Oilers caliber dynasty, Montreal got lucky in 93' because it should have been a threepeat....anyways I'm rambling.

Source(s): EDIT- BG- Weird answers on the overrated/underrated players......e.g. Hasek flopped around to look good due to a disciplined D (something like that)........WHAT disciplined D are you talking about? Is it even possible for a player with SIX Vezinas AND two Hart trophies to be overrated? (The answer is no). Barrasso? Meh...ONE time all-star? Coffey? Offense from the defence is a negative since when? (14 time all star)...Holds COUNTLESS records...two Norris trophies....that offensive production didn't hinder teams he was on from winning 4 cups (other another 3 Finals appearances). Holmstrom? He hasn't been very good and is pretty ineffective at this point.....2 goals, what net presence? A couple of years ago maybe. Just saying........

Crosby is obviously the face of the NHL, so naturally NBC will market him. It's the North American name and that's pretty much the only reason why.

Most Underrated in Wings history - There is a ton. Just because they have had so many superstars, it has overshadowed some of there other incredible players. This goes all the way back to the Production Line (Howe, Abel, Lindsay). Abel and Lindsay were always overshadowed by Howe, even though those 3 finished top 1,2,3 in scoring one year. Currently on the Red Wings, I would say maybe Val Filppula as most underrated. Those third liners don't get enough credit, however, Fil is a legit second line center on the third line. He's got a ton of potential.

I'll admit that I don't watch the Penguins so I can't comment on who there most underrated players are.

O, you mean Cindy Crysby?!!? That stupid kid with the dirt stache and bruised knees from sucking on Bettman's d***???????? NBC has to talk about him because he will dive on the ground and cry like a baby if he doesn't get all the attention!

Sorry, had a turrets moment there and threw in all the likely insults we will also see accompanying these questions. To answer your actual question:

Underrated Wing- I'll go with Holmstrom, take his net presence out of the equation and this is a different team. Passed his skill onto "The Mule"

Overrate Wing- Hasek, flopped around and was made to look better than he really was due to a disciplined D.

Underrated Pen- I like the Barrasso pick, doesnt really get the credit he deserves b/c of the supporting cast. My ruuner up would be Ron Francis.

Overrated Pen- Paul Coffey, as skilled as he was that skill set fits being a winger more so than having a primary defensive responsibility.

Bob- I'm not saying offense from D is a bad thing, I'm saying compromising Defensive ability from a defensive position is. Mike Green showed you can be nominated for the Norris by putting pucks in the net more so than being a sound defensive defenseman. I feel Coffey is basically a scoring winger playing the point. While his offensive contributions were impressive that is all people seem to view him by rather than being a complete defenseman...hence being overrated in my opinion.

Barrasso- one time all star explains it exactly. Those Pens teams were loaded offensively and the offense took the majority of the spotlight while Barrasso was a lot better than given credit for. They have recently been showing reruns of those cup games in the early 90's and I was amazed at how great Barrasso was during those games, especially in the Blackhawk series in 92. (I was too young to appreciate it at the time). Don't forget these teams werent putting up 8 or 9 goals a game...Tom did have to make a few saves.

Holmstrom- we were talking previous years also, correct? He may not be producing this year but his net presence is still felt and has been for some time. He has done the dirty work for so long and usually gets more credit for "interfering" with the goalie more so than disrupting the D and goalie in front of the net which he has been phenominal at for a while.

Hasek- I stand by this assessment. I think he was overrated. again awards are based on stats and I dont give him sole credit for his Vezina's. Take out the Lidstrom's, Chelios's, Murphy's that have been in front of him and I dont think he puts up those type of numbers. The flopping around was a reference to his unorothodox, not stand up, not truly butterfly style. It's not hard to look great when you are seeing 15-18 shots a game.

Just my opinion, but I stand by it.

Because this is how sports broadcasting works... they always hype the one player that every single human being in America knows. Most Americans won't know of any other player so they will talk up Crosby... and the NHL wants that. National broadcasts on network television is not about playing to a sport's cult base, they play to the casual spectator hoping to pull them into the game.

Look at it this way, you may get irritated by "Crosby Crosby Crosby" talk but at least the game's free to watch.

Underrated: Barrasso.... can't say for Wings

Overrated: Hasek for the Wings (recent history anyway). Not too familiar with the Pens to say

  • The NHL is marketing Sydney Crosby as the Face of the National Hockey League, so that is who NBC is hyping.

Most underrated Red Wings Player was probably Terrible Ted Lindsay who never truly got the respect he was do. The most overrated Penguins Player was probably Jaromir Jagr. He never did that much for the Washington Capitals or New York Rangers.

Don't be silly, Joe. They're also talking about Malkin. Sheesh.

I can't say Cindy is overrated - the kid has talent; but as a fan of a different NHL team, I'm sick to death of hearing about him. You can't even watch a Western Conference game without some comments about her.

Ozzy is the most underrated Wing. Interviewers are still questioning him about the earlier part of the season and are surprised at his stats post season.

I also agree that Geno is "underrated". He's been give Kudos, but he is overshadowed by Sid the Kid for some reason, even though they are tied in post season points to this point.

It's the Nothing But Crosby network! Which is funny, since he's not even the best player on his own team. And never mind the Wings' dominance in the NHL over the past few years. It's All Sidney, All The Time.

  • I read this quote last night:

"How come when Phil Esposito scored those types of goals they were called garbage goals, but when Crosby does the same, he's really talented?"- by someone's dad

(And I do remember people calling them garbage goals. I was one of them, lol).

Underrated Wing- Proberts scoring ability. It wasn't the role he was asked to play, but he could put the puck in the net if allowed

Overrated Wing- Hasek- granted, the Wings got him at the end of his career, but the guy would give up 2 goals on 16 shots and everybody would say how great he was....(OK Wings fans, you take take me out behind the chemical shed and shoot me now).

Underrated Flightless Bird- Darius Kasparitis. He could hit you. Just ask Lemieux, Jagr, and Lindros. Great hip check as well.

Overrated Flightless Bird- ummm, Glen Sather. No real reason, it just gives me an opportunity to take a shot at the Rags. Hey, at least I'm honest!

    Hi

I think several fans had never heard of Ericsson so had him underrated. I thought Krupp was overrated when he was signed.

Personally I think Fluery is overrated, but that could just be because last couple years they have had a backup save their season. I don't and haven't watched Pittsburgh enough to identify underrated, though I think might go to Staal, all things considered. I remember last year saying I would take him on the Wings in a heartbeat, when all the Pens Life Long Bandwagoners where throwing him under the bus.

    Thank You

Crosby is a good thing to talk aboot eh?

    Underrated :Kevin Stevens

Overrated: Hal Gill ... b/c he is the worst hockey player I've ever seen... he is a 6ft 5in 250 pound turtle... he is like a great dane that is scared of cats.
