yes it can.especially irritated by lifting the kids.Jimmy had a type of foam put in his shoulder when he had that problem, same basic idea as insulation.Been fine since.Discussing the alternatives with the doctor is the path to take now.A neurologist, orthopedic surgeon, can direct you to the correct path to take depending on the mri findings, which are more indepth then the basic information they gave you.The hospital has quite an extensive library online I can find anything.Need information just ask.

andrea s - The answerer is Yes. C-5 and C-6 are the lower two bones in the neck spine (cervical vertebrae). Between the bones there is a normal disc of soft cartilage which acts as a cushion and through which the spinal nerve passes. That space is called the C 5-6 inter-space. Over the years, or as a result of sudden neck injury, that disk can lose some of its moisture, become dehydrated and begin to squeeze the space and put pressure on the nerve. This can cause your facial and hand numbness. Often, there is also present some similar damage in the lowed back which produces some leg numbness. You may need another MRI, this time of the lower back spine. It needs to be relieved to avoid the numbness from becoming worse or permanent. Stretching exercises are often tried first, a cortisone injection may be next, and then the possibility of same-day microsurgery might be considered.

Going to the wrong doctors and quit the therapists for now-- probably causing more problems. See a neurologist. Had similar problems, but my disk ruptured and nearly lost all sensation in the arm. I was referred to a neurologist finally who diagnosed the problem quickly. Becuase mine was ruptured and compressing the nerves and cord, I did have to have surgery. But from all I have read, yours sounds like it is the culprit. I assume you have also had an MRI to look at it closely. But anyway the neurologist may be able to do an injection to relieve the pain quickly. That worked for me until mine did rupture. Good luck.
