Must see sites around the United States?

My friends and I are planning a road trip around the United States for next summer. We'd like to stop in each and every state (minus Alaska and Hawaii), but we don't have very many ideas of WHAT to do while in those states. We'd like to see the "famous" sites as well as the smaller yet interesting places. Any suggestions?

    After the Six Day War in 1967 the US decided it wanted Israel to be its main strategic ally in the region. In the Suez Crisis of 1956 the US and Israel were on opposite sides. Before that US relations with Israel were about the same as US relations with Yugoslavia, i.e., lukewarm at best. In one sense the whole thing is a "vast conspiracy." The conspirators are people who went to college and know how to look things up. The "victims" of the conspiracy are people are who just aren't that educated and think stuff happens for mysterious unexplained reasons.

    Well, there's always the standard sights;

    The Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, Death Valley, whatever..

    But in order to see the lesser known, and usually much more interesting sights, you really have to ask the natives; the locals.

    Me, I could show you some great places around Southern California because that's where I grew up and live.

    Did you know that California is the only place you can go surfing and skiing on the same day?

    Virginia: It has a lot.

    *Charlottesville, Monticello- Thomas Jefferson's home

    *Richmond- capital, and a lot of civil war battlefields, museums...

    *Northern VA: our nations capital, DC, Mt.Vernon- George Washington's home

    *Western VA: Blue Ridge Mountains- Skyline Dr, Luray Caverns

    *Eastern VA: Va beach, Chesapeake Bay

    *Williamsburg: Busch Gardens, a slew of history (including Jamestown)

    All of it is worth checking out. If you want convenience to interstates, Northern Va and Richmond are right off interstate 95. All other spots I mentioned ae off interstate 64. And Richmond is intersected by 95& 64

    Plenty of fun places to go to in Orlando Florida, or even Tampa Florida. In Orlando you can get a hotel for as little as 30 bucks a night, and its not too shabby either, gas expenses and then u can go to Universal/Islands of adventure theme park, or Disney world, Disney animal kingdom, Epcot, MGM studios, Nickelodeon Hotel, Downtown Disney with many night clubs, in Tampa there's Busch Gardens and of course there's always Sea World. Depending on your travel distance you could drive the 11hrs down the state of Florida and head to Key West, and go snorkeling and scuba diving along our coral reef, and go dolphin swimming, but Key West can be pricey, there's always Miami with sexy South Beach and clubs as well as Miami Metro Zoo, and Miami Seaquarium. If you want a tropical paradise vacation, I advise go to Ft.Myers Florida and you can take glass-bottom boat tours, walk on powder white sand beaches, go para sailing, rent a sailboat and drive out to a sandbar and collect sandollars and starfish, and see dolphins swimming.
