I got an Ethernet modem-router connection problem? Do i need a new router?
I have AT&T dsl and for about three years I haven't had any problems connecting my ethernet modem to my D-Link router until yesterday. It seems that the connection amongst the modem and the router isn't stable as the ethernet light on the modem lights on and off every 7 seconds or so. However, linking the ethernet cables from the computer to the modem directly works fine and as it gives me internet to ask this very question. Do you think it's time for me to get a new router or what? 10 pts thank you!
nothing wrong with the ethernet cables themselves

Hi Pal,
Before just going for a new one, just try to reset the Router and check for any firmware upgrades for your D Link router. This should save you some bucks as well...
Update with results..
Cheers.

That is probably caused by a IP (Internet Protocol) conflict. The modem and router are both attempting to set the IP address which could cause confusion between the two and your network not working correctly.
The reason you haven't had this problem in the past is because up until now they have both been online and working at the same time. However if one goes offline and the other remains online it causes confusion when the one comes back online as to who should now set the IP address. (This explains why you can use your modem directly connected to the computer.)
Usually to fix this on my own network I have all of my network components running (modem, routers, switches, computers etc.) and connected and then run the network setup wizard on all the computers.
Alternatively you can reset the network devices and see if that helps.
Failing all that I would suggest calling a expert before buying a new router as they can be expensive and should last, if you are not abusive to them, for several years.

Probably time time get a new one. Did you try to reset the router? I have a different type but there is a rest you can do, that may solve it. Have you tried another wireless device other than your laptop?

The router might be dying(means get a new one), try to upgrade your d-link firmwire, or reset router.

Try this: turn power to both units off and wait 30 seconds, then turn power to both units on(at the same time) and wait two minutes. It should all be working.
