Gestational diabetes!!! :( help plzzz?

I had a GTT (glucose tolerance test) two days back and my results was said that i was quite on the higher end of diabetes :(. The doc didn't say the readings though and in that tension i actually forgot to ask also. She said that i have to come again in 1 week to test again and if its still high, then i have to start taking insulin. I ws shocked to hear that and I really don't want to take insulin :(. Plz Plz all do help me all. Plz tell me what sort foods i should take and avoid so that in 1 weeks time my blood sugar comes down a little bit. (Please do tell me the indian foods as i am an indian :) ). Will this affect my baby? I am really worried as after months of trying finally i am pregnant and really don't want anything to go wrong with my baby as i am now 23 weeks preg (5 months complete).

i would be avoiding sugary foods.. no lollies, chips, take outs (eg mcdonalds etc) because these won't help... drink lots of water and i would assume to eat foods high in carbohydrates to keep your body digesting well

Hey dont get too stressed about it.

There is nothing that you can do or take about the GTT. If you do have gestational diabities you should as about taking metforman instead of insulin.

There have been heaps of research done in the last 4 years in australia(royal womens hospital Melbourne) and your doc should be able to get hold of the research to support you.

    Good luck

It is important to do as your doctor says for this ,it is serious but with the right treatment your baby will be fine .I had this last pregnancy my baby is now a healthy 5 year old ..You can help by eating healthy food ,try changing to low GI foods ,an indian diet should be pretty good but you will need to talk to a dietitian. The insulin shots are not too bad ,I found the finger pricks to test your blood the worst part but it is important for your baby's health .If you do not control this the baby will grow too fast and could have to be delivered early with lung problems ..But with the insulin shots and carful care your baby will be fine ....

Avoid sweets, Just dont eat after midnight the night before the test. By morning your sugar should be the lowest, they will take blood, make you drink something, and take blood again, like 3 more times after that. Just to see where your levels are. Good luck to you!

    i'm a type one diabetic.

if your sugars are running high just avoid sugar and carbs.

you can have them, just don't indulge.
