What is a material metaphor?
I'm trying to figure out what this means, as I've heard it many times regarding "Humanity i love you" by Cummings but i don't know what it means. Please help?

In the poem, cummings likens success and other things to material things (black the boots of success, whose soul dangles from his watch-chain, you pawn your intelligence, putting the secret of life in your pants and forgetting it's there and sitting down on it).
These are material metaphors because he is referring to something that is not material (success, intelligence, secret of life) as something material.
