What is the type of clothing called which looks like a t-shirt is worn over a shirt?

Do you know how and where this trend originated?

Just asking.

    Hi Abhy!

Nice to see you asking question after about 2-years break!

I think "Ms. Informed" said it well. I was a bit curious as to how come our great Abhy would mistake "sweater vest worn with a shirt" as a T-shirt and also in the second picture "contrasting collar and cuff" are worn by males and females, which has nowhere any resemblance with a T-shirt.

You know, it was so nice seeing your age as '21' which we used to see like '18' in your Y!A profile and many of us commented about your very active role in the early years of Y!A.

Sorry for chatting here, though I could hardly contain my joy of seeing you back. Keep us entertained with your witty Q&A as well as the Blog postings, if you are still maintaining one.

    Have a nice day/night.

Thanks Abhy, I still remember fondly how excited we were when the Y!A started in December 2005, though I came to know of its existence in April 2006 from my Yahoo! Group of our technical institution (PSTC) where there was a hyper-link at the bottom of that page which took me to the Y!A page. Update us about how you are progressing and do you communicate with old buddies in Y!A or Y!AT? Happy days!

those are not examples of a "t-shirt" worn over a [dress] shirt.

the first is a sweater vest worn with a shirt. which is a casual more "formal" way to dress (as opposed to shirt, vest, jacket).

the second is a women's dress shirt made with contrasting collar and cuff.

as to when these trends in styles of clothing started, not too sure..but these are not recent trends.

It is a Short Shirt & it originated in the fashion zone of the wearer's mind in the days of yore, man!

some designers started playing with it on the runway...

eventually we got the habit of doing it,

and more soo.... we've been layering tank tops so i guess someone got the idea to layer their long sleeve short sleeve shirts (reffering back to the origin from the runway)
