what is the point of a "cheat day" on your diet?
im on a low calorie diet 1200-1400 calories a day and ive been on it for a while but ive heard rumors that cheat days actually boost your metabolism? i was wondering if that was true because i can go without the treat without binging i just need to get down from 8-10% bodyfat to 4-6% bodyfat
sorry i meant cheat meal, my parents call it a cheat day and it throws me off but i did only mean one meal or one item of food

You are absolutely correct. Your body gets used to the food you take in. If you consistently take in 1200-1400 calories, when you have a cheat meal and take in maybe 1500 calories in that one sitting, you basically shock your system. Your metabolism sees that you have excess calories to burn and speeds up. Of course, if you do the cheat meal for a long time your body MAY get used to that as well. You can try one of two things. The one I like to try first because I love my cheat day, is to actually have a cheat every four days and see how that works for you. If it doesn't work after maybe a month or so (give or take - everyone is different) then you can try to do one cheat meal every other week (and that may be easy for you since you say that you can go without eating that cheat and is probably the healthier way to go) and see how your body responds to that. You have to keep playing with it to try to force max results out of your body. The only thing I must correct you about is that it is not a cheat day - you should only eat one cheat meal. You are looking for that shock but you will take in too much if you do it for the entire day probably can have a reverse effect. Best of luck.

yes! because the more you eat, the higher your metabolism. so on these cheat days, you eat more so your metabolism goes up. the next day you eat less, but your metabolism is still high, so you naturally burn extra calories.
also cheat days limit the chance of you binging everyday

You need "eat days", not "cheat days".
Do you know what you are doing to yourself w/ an intake like that?
I eat 3000-3500 calories a day and have perfect abs, don't be dumb.
