We're off to france soon and are going to look for a property to buy.?

Do we need a visa etc to live in France or, because it's an EU country, can we just buy a property and move over there?

If you're moving from the UK or another EU country then you don't need a visa and yes you can just buy a property and move in. If you plan to stay more than 3 months you are supposed to 'declare' that you've become a resident which basically means taking passport/proof of ID along to your local town hall (mairie) they then record the fact that you're a resident and give you a receipt.

You can also apply for a carte or titre de séjour (like a residency permit) but it's not compulsory.

Suggest you take a look at http://breizh-poellrezh.eu/PropertyBuyingDevelopme... They have produced a fairly reasonable guide for those considering such a move. You might find it useful
