Is this a scorpion??
Ok. So I work in Iowa about 3 miles from the Missouri river. Today I stumbled upon an insect that very much resembled a scorpion. It had claws and 8 legs but the tail was curled back instead of up like I've seen scorpions before. Has anybody ever seen anything like this before? I tried to take a picture but it didn't turn out.
There were no stripes on it, it was almost completely dark brown/ chocolate. Do these striped bark ones have to have stripes?
BTW, this whole experience was very creepy. I've never seen one before and nearly stepped on this one until I received a warning of waving claws. I don't know how people can live in the southwest!

Yes, I live in Arkansas and we have the same ones here, small and brown. Scorpions only have their tail up and folded over the top of their body when they are going to attack; Any other time it is curled under.
