Question about lcd monitor light source lifespan?

My question is: Is it better to leave a lcd monitor on with a screen saver or does putting it into standy (turning off lamp) shortern the light source lifespan. Does turning off the lamp and turning it back on drastically shorten the life of the bulbs.

    Hello there:

You should just turn the LCD monitor off or put it into Standby Mode, especially when you are not using it. Leaving on any type of bulb will shorten its lifespan. The only way turning it on and off will shorten the lifespan is if it is done in quick succession. Example: I just turned off my monitor, then turned it back on immediately; or vice versa. Although, it will not reduce the lifespan by much, it will add up in the end.

Remember, LCD beats Plasma over price and efficiency any day. Plasma will degrade over time and is much more expensive to repair (generally 2/3 the cost of the original cost). You're better off buying a new monitor at that price. However, an LCD monitor will last a lot longer (up to 10 - 20 years) and you will probably have to change out just the bulbs. That makes LCDs much more cost effective.

I hope this helped. Have a wonderful day.
