What would happen if I got hit by a car, bus, truck, or trailer at 40 miles per hour?
The street that I use to go home from school is a busy street and sometimes at night when I walk home there are cars coming really fast in both lanes and the speed limit is 40 miles per hour. I think if I stepped into the street in front of the vehicle I wonder what will happen.

In 1986, my daughter, then 9, was struck by an auto in front of our home. Police experts from Richmond were called in to investigate the accident. Skid marks showed that the car was traveling 59.66 mph. It was proved by a witness that my daughter was not in the road, but at the side. The girl who hit her did not even apply her brakes until after she struck my daughter. Since she was on her bike, she was thrown up and her head took the full impact, hitting the windshield. She was rushed to our local hospital after being put in a pressure suit. From there, she was flown by helicopter to MCV( Medical College of VA) where she spent one month in a coma and once regaining conscienceness, she was sent to a rehab. hospital in North Carolina where she spent 3 months learning to walk and talk again. She made medical history when she survived, being researched and checked up on by Duke Hospital. I am very thankful that she survived. Doctors' could do nothing but wait during the time she spent in the coma. I did not leave her side, but spent the entire month by her bedside. Even doctors' admit that she survived only by the grace of God. To this day, she still suffers excruciating headaches which leave her unable to function. Please don't even think about trying to beat the traffic across the street. The odds are not in your favor. Children have a remarkable ability to heal, which far exceeds that of an adult.
I am often asked if I would have wanted the driver to suffer. My answer : this girl had to pass by my house every day, knowing that her inattention very nearly caused the death of a beautiful little girl who was just beginning her life. What punishment that would be on me, had I been the driver. Hospital costs at MCV: $300,000. I don't even know the cost of the rehab hospital. Luckly, we had 100% accident coverage. The driver was only insured for the minimum amount required, which was $50,000. Without our insurance coverage, we would have been finacially ruinned. For a few extra dollars a month, liability coverage could have easily been doubled or tripled.

I got hit by an suv going 40 or 50 when i was walking and i didnt see it coming so my body was limp. I survived with little to no injury. I guess im a statistical anomaly

the speed limit is 40 so people are probably speeding up to 50 mph. in any event, death is probably going to be the outcome at least 80-90% of the time. the head trauma you would receive would be fatal depending on how youre hit. if i were you i would always look both ways

you personally got hit, or you in a car got hit? If you're in a car, it would shake you up but probably not kill you. If you got hit by a vehicle at 40 mph, you'd go flying, and yeah you would probably be dead. Definitely lots of broken bones.

If you get hit at 40mph you would be in quite a mess. You are just as much responsible for your own safety as are the drivers you refer to, so look where your going and don't jump out in front of them

There is a high probability that you would not survive your injuries. You would look much like one of the dead animals found along a road.

Well there's only one way to find out.
Wait, before you go, who is your next of kin and their address? I think flowers.com is having a sale.

I hope you are not planning on finding out because you would probably be killed.
