Has anyone been to DLI (Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center) and what did you think about it?

I might be joining as a 35W, but I don't really know much about what I will be doing.

Update:

I'm from Southern CA so I'm looking forward to my AIT being in CA.

I'm not someone who get drunk and is always partying. So I'll be ok in that department. :-p

its going to be one of the greatest challenges in your life.

keep your head in the game because they are not afraid to drop you and youll be just another statistic. theres less of the boot camp bs you see in so many other schools because the population is mostly older and better behaved, NCOs and officers and stuff.

but they play little political games there.

its a beautiful area though and theres plenty to do in the downtime.

just dont forget to keep your language your main mission. getting drunk and getting laid are things to reward yourself with, not your main objective.

I was in the Navy as a CTI. I was at DLI Monterey from 95 to 97.

I loved it. Absolutely loved it. The language training is tough, especially considering the fact that attendance is absolutely compulsory at all times... but you'll be fine if you're disciplined, have good study habits, are curious, and did well on the DLAB.

Asilomar is the beach to party at; Pacific Grove and Lighthouse Ave are right there; Steinbeck country and the Aquarium are your backyard. The Naval Postgraduate School further gentrifies an already deeply cultured and affluent economy.

Say hi to the otters for me!

The simplest approach to get DLI assured for your agreement is to enlist for an MOS that calls for a language and a safeguard clearance. Once you're within the Army, it's viable to wait DLI centered on different necessities, like going to Germany to do a task that calls for you being in a position to talk German. This is infrequent, however it's viable. Also, as soon as you're within the Army, matters that occurred earlier than you joined have so much much less have an effect on to your clearance eligibility.
