Who else was infludenced by David Carradine?

I'm still in shock over David Carradine's passing. His portrayal of Kwai Chang Caine was my first exposure to martial arts as a kid and was an early inspiration for me to get involved. I'm sad that I never got a chance to meet him although he and my Sensei were good friends.

Was anyone else influenced or inspired by him when it came to their Martial Arts studies?

Of course. Grasshopper was my alter ego in my imaginary world. I wanted a blind Shaolin master to teach me. I trained like I was going to grab that pebble and lift the cauldron with my forearms one day.

Kwai Chang Caine is/was one of the universal references in every dojo in the US. If you have never called someone Grasshopper or been called Grasshopper you haven't studied martial arts.

(I loved him in Kill Bill too.)

The show sparked an interest in martial arts, but it was seeing Kung Fu Theater on the USA network back in the 80s, that really inspired me to take it up. Eventually seeing Bruce Lee movies was the icing on the cake (I didn't see a Bruce Lee movie until the early 80s).

I never thought Carradine was all that talented as a martial artist even when I was a kid. Mainly since all of his fight scenes were in slow motion. Good actor though.

I watched Kung Fu back in the 70s.

    I now own the dvds.

Unfortunately, i never learned a martial art, but i did learn transcendental meditation. Partially influenced from watching Kung Fu, and partially because of being a Beatles fan.

A funny thing happened at work a year or so ago.

A coworker came around the corner with two long tubes, like from wrapping paper. She surprised me, acting like she was going to hit me. I did a block, just like Kwai Chang, we both cracked up. 'I must have learned that move from watching Kung Fu', i said.

I was saddened to hear the news. I watched "Kung Fu" as a kid when it was really the only example of martial arts you could find on TV. Of course the martial arts action was terrible - David Carradine had never studied Kung Fu before the show! - but it was still fascinating to watch as a kid.

Grew up in the '70s watching Kung Fu. He was my idol. In that time all the girls in my class at school were going crazy over the Osmond's and David Cassidy but it was David Carradine for me. Still had a soft spot for him even after all these years.

    RIP Grasshopper.

    Oh absolutely.

I was shocked by the news of it and even more by the details.

I find it hard to believe that he would go inside of a closet to hang himself.

    Sad either way.

    Edit:

As soon as I heard the news yesterday morning, I knew that it could not have happened the way it was reported.

Now they are saying his hands were tied behind his back and his genitals and neck were also tied together.

He had been studying for quite along time so he definitely knew martial arts by this time. But nobody would go through those lengths just to get naked and hang himself in a closet in Bangkok.

    I just knew it.

    Wow, news to me.

I'm a bit younger and only ever saw The Legend Continues but the man is synonymous with martial arts whether people realize it or not.

The details officially state suicide but Wikipedia's article indicates that he might have pulled a Michael Hutchence. Sad either way.

    Very sad.I think he's murdered.

This was nothing for David, so I never believe that it was suicide.

In the news was said that different colors where used of rope (those colors have a meaning in the Chinese underworld).

David was a master in Martial arts in real life.

I hope they get the persons who are responsible for this.

    RIP.

i'm additionally thinking Swayze (regrettably) yet 3 of the human beings you stated suffered unpredicted deaths that no you have have been given considered coming in any comprehend! so which you in no way pay interest to. yet i grew to alter into into saddest approximately hmmm.... Billy Mays surprisingly. Then Farrah, then MJ, then Carradine. the only factor that made me unhappy approximately MJ grew to alter into into his infants. And his stupid, bloodsucking father, who's at fault for what went incorrect with the damaging guy.

Definitely! I loved watching Kung Fu when I was a kid, one my favorite programs. I was already training at the time, but it did help motivate me. DC's role in KIll Bill was cool as well, I thought that he was perfect for it.
