Is this sentence a metaphor..?

I'm sorry if this a stupid question, but yeah.

"Hate was becoming a light switch which I could easily turn off and on."

You see, I'm not entirely sure if metaphors strictly contain the word "is".

Thanks in advance!

Update:

Haha, this is a reply to someone because I can't pick a best answer at the moment: this is a sentence taken from a book I'm reading, The Tattoo by Chris McKinney. ;)

It sounds great to me! This is a metaphor that was occurring to you in your past so I think "was" is acceptable.

I would maybe just call it a switch, and not a light switch. It just seems to go better. I don't think many people call it a light switch.

But I def know where you're coming from!

    Yes this is metaphorical.

To your extra info, metaphors do not necessitate "is", as long as there is a distinct comparison without using "like" or "as" you can designate a metaphor.

Yes it is. It is comparing two things without using the words "like" or "as".
