Is this sentence a metaphor..?
I'm sorry if this a stupid question, but yeah.
"Hate was becoming a light switch which I could easily turn off and on."
You see, I'm not entirely sure if metaphors strictly contain the word "is".
Thanks in advance!
5 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoTreating allergies and a cold?
I've never really had noticeable allergies until this year, but out of nowhere I just felt like sneezing all the time and had a chronic runny nose. A few days before that, my throat was sore but it went away; that came back slightly today, so I stopped talking.
I've taken allergy medicines, but I have a feeling this is also a cold. I'm pretty sure this is possible? If it is, would I be allowed to take Dayquil/cold medicine as well? I had something for allergies earlier which helped a little.

I'm having a ridiculously tough time trying to decide what facial shape I have. To me, it seems like I'm a combination or in-between.. I'd like to think I'm slightly heart, but leaning towards round. Or maybe I'm oval? sigh.
If you're extra nice, you can suggest what type of bangs I should get. I was thinking long and sideswept.
11 AnswersHair1 decade agoVirus? When I close facebook, a window with a million tabs pops up..?
Recently, when I log out of Facebook and close the window, another internet window opens titled "About:blank" with the facebook log-in screen on it. I try to close it, but it keeps opening another "About:blank" tab and then another and another..! I can't end the program because it continues to open another tab. Is this a virus? I just scanned my computer with McAfee, and it didn't find anything. I find it hard to believe it's just a glitch on Facebook or something.
Has this happened to anyone?

I know spoiled milk is a chemical change. How about rotting fruit?
I apologize for my lack of scientific knowledge and in advance just in case this is a stupid question. :P
2 AnswersChemistry1 decade agoWords associated with old age?
There's this grammar exercise in my summer reading packet with a chart. I need 5 nouns, 5 verbs, 5 adjectives, and 5 adverbs that have to do with old age or old people. x_x weird, I know. The examples they gave were experience, contented, volunteer (? I guess they mean at a nursing home), and slowly. I already have memories, stories, wrinkle, forgetful, white, and care.
Feel free to just write any words that come to mind. :P
7 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoFall Trends '08: Ankle boots--- to keep or return?
I was at Kohl's yesterday looking for some cheap-ish basic fall trends when I saw some black and brown ankle boots. They were knocked down to $39.99 from 50 bucks. I kinda went crazy, always having thought about buying a pair, so I just went and bought them on a whim. They're black, flat, fake leather-ish, and about 2 inches above the ankle.
Now that I own them, though, I'm not quite sure I can pull them off. I'm about to enter high school, and I don't know if I'll be able to strut them down the hallways. Plus, I'm finding hard to match them with my clothes, now that I look at my closet. I was reading about them online and realized that there are only certain kinds of ways to really pull them off. Being 14, I think maybe I could wait till I'm a little older and sophisticated to go for it. xD
I think I can return them still. They're Kohl's shoes, so maybe I should invest my 40 bucks in a safer, just-as-trendy pair of boots. So now it's a matter of whether I keep them or return them. Advice, anyone?
2 AnswersFashion & Accessories1 decade agoAlice in Wonderland Jr. audition song suggestions?
Okay, so I asked for audition song suggestions a while back, but someone slapped some sense into me about colorblind casting, so here I go again. I'm fourteen and I'm going to audition for Alice in Wonderland Jr. at the community theater.
I'm (seriously!) going for any of the Flowers of the Golden Afternoon. As a speaking role, I wouldn't mind any of the Cheshire Cats, though.
I was thinking of singing "I Enjoy Being a Girl" from Flower Drum Song, but I only need 16 bars and I'm trying to figure out where would be a good place to start singing from (the beginning, perhaps?). Would this song be okay?
Finally, I'm not sure what to say about my vocal range except that I sang 2nd soprano as a nun of the Nomberg Abbey in a production of the Sound of Music this past January (they theater casted younger people as nuns, even if the main nuns were older women). I'm also good with harmony, which is why I think being a Flower of the Golden Afternoon would be good.
Thanks a lot!
1 AnswerTheater & Acting1 decade agoAlice in Wonderland Jr. audition song?
I'm auditioning for Alice in Wonderland Jr. I'm a fourteen year-old girl, and I'm not aiming for any of the Alices just because of my ethnicity, and I'm going to assume the casting isn't color-blind. So I'm aiming for any Flowers of the Golden Afternoon. If not, Mathilda or any parts of the Cheshire Cat will do.
Auditions are in a few weeks, so I'm thinking of an audition song now. Does anyone have some good suggestions?
(it's a kids show, and no one really minds if you sing over-used songs ;D)
4 AnswersTheater & Acting1 decade agocorny modern love songs!?
hiii!
okay, so at my school we do this thing called Renaissance Radio every friday (we have this academic program at our school called Renaissance). basically we just play songs for the eighth graders at lunch.
anyhoo! i'm in charge of compiling the playlist for each week, and tomorrow will be a special Valentine's edition. i need some corny modern love songs! modern as in now. but i'll be taking oldies/90's music as LONG as it would be something a modern 8th grader could stand listening to.
right now I have "love song" by sara bareilles (though its not really a LOVE song), several n sync songs, "stupid cupid" by mandy moore, "accidentally in love" by counting crows, and a couple more. suggestions pleeease? :D
hellllp?
2 AnswersOther - Music1 decade agoART--- which artists were actually alive when they were famous?
I know a lot of artists in history didn't really become famous or noticed or gotten any credit for their work until after they died.
So who are some artists who were actually able to enjoy their fame and riches while they were still alive?
6 AnswersPainting1 decade agoSound of Music audition-- soon!?
I have already asked a question on how to choose a song for my audition, but I'm pressed for time and I have narrowed it down to these, which I am comfortable singing:
I Enjoy Being a Girl -- Flower Drum Song
I Am Sixteen Going on Seventeen (although I've already been convinced you shouldn't sing songs from the show you're auditioning for)
I Know Things Know -- Into the Woods
Tonight -- West Side Story
I do know that the last two aren't very relevant to the character I'm aiming for (Louisa, 13), but I've finally decided I need to sing a song I'm comfortable with. I need help choosing which one to sing... if you have a better idea for me (upper/mezzo soprano) then please include it! :)
4 AnswersTheater & Acting1 decade agoLiterary Elements: Voice and Tone?
Hi! I'm doing a homework assignment on a certain book, and we're asked to do literary elements for the novel. Tonight, my teacher assigned voice and tone, however I'm having trouble finding the difference between them, as when I looked "Voice" up online, it mentions "tone" in the definition. O_O
Help? Thanks!
1 AnswerHomework Help1 decade agoAuditioning with music from the musical itself..?
I'm a little confused on this because I've been getting lots of different answers. I'm wondering-- is it a bad to audition for a musical with a song from that same musical?
The musical in question is an amateur production of the Sound of Music. One of my potential audition songs is "Sixteen Going on Seventeen". My voice teacher as well as another yahoo member mentioned that it was fine to use it.
If you have any other audition songs that I could use, please include them-- I'm 13 and going for one of the children. Thanks!
7 AnswersTheater & Acting1 decade agoHalloween Costume? -- last minute, emergency. heh.?
So.. I'm 13 I've had absolutely no time to think of an acceptable Halloween costume!
We have a dance this Friday, and I have no idea what I want to be.. I want to be original, creative, and not cliche (eg. Witch. T_T). How do I find a costume that will help me look good but be appealing Halloween-wise as well?
1 AnswerHalloween1 decade agoActing in an audition for a musical..?
I've only auditioned for one out of school production, so I wanted some advice for future auditions from people who are experienced at stuff like this. :)
The auditions that I go to give you a script from the musical, so basically it's a cold reading. How do I make the lines my own, without acting too much like how the original character portrayed it? If you have any additional tips, that would be great!
5 AnswersTheater & Acting1 decade agoSound of Music Auditions?
I know, there are SO many questions on this, but none relate to my personal information. xD
Okay, so Sound of Music Auditions are next month. I'm 13, and shooting for one of the children-- I believe Louisa Von Trapp is 13. I am an upper middle soprano or something like that, apparently, and I need some good audition songs that hint at Louisa's rebellious attitude. I'm trying to shy away from songs that are FROM the Sound of Music.. any suggestions? Thanks!
Also, I am Filipino, but they are going by color blind casting. I know this is tricky, and I don't expect to get a part, but I wanted as much experience auditioning as I can get. =)
