Sound of Music Auditions?
I know, there are SO many questions on this, but none relate to my personal information. xD
Okay, so Sound of Music Auditions are next month. I'm 13, and shooting for one of the children-- I believe Louisa Von Trapp is 13. I am an upper middle soprano or something like that, apparently, and I need some good audition songs that hint at Louisa's rebellious attitude. I'm trying to shy away from songs that are FROM the Sound of Music.. any suggestions? Thanks!
Also, I am Filipino, but they are going by color blind casting. I know this is tricky, and I don't expect to get a part, but I wanted as much experience auditioning as I can get. =)
I just wanted to add that I was requesting things not in the Sound of Music is because I've read somewhere that you should stay away from songs that are in the musical you're auditioning for.. but I guess they won't mind. =)
Also, thanks for letting me know that they won't mind me singing a song for people a little older than me.. I wasn't sure whether it would be okay.

You are giving too much thought to something simple !
And why shy away from the genius of Rogers &
Hammerstein ---what's wrong with "I am sixteen
going on seventeen ! "
If your producers are anything like the originals they
won't care if you are bit out of the range of the character
---only if you're out of tune !
Source(s): I was there at the original auditions of "Sound of Music" Howard Lindsay (he wrote the book) cast me in another Show of his which ran at same time on Broadway ! Tough! - Cass MLv 41 decade ago
That's a tough one, as there are not many songs written for that age. You don't want to sing anything for someone that much older. I believe I sang "On My Own" from Les Miserable, but I as 17 at the time I auditioned for the Sound of Music, but I wasn't auditioning for one of the children, but for one of the nuns. (Which I got, by the way).
"I Feel Pretty" from West Side Story would be a good choice I think. I believe the range is right for your voice. It's a fun song, easily played by the pianist, and you shouldn't have too hard of a time learning.
Hope you get the part! Sound of Music was the funnest show I was ever in :)

What about reflections from Mulan? or little people from les mis. But it's a bit young. Erm... what about something by KT tunstall, she's quite good. Where are they? I feel jealous!
