Since many of you are obviously deep into human rights issues now that the POTUS has said waterboarding is....?
torture. However, do you share the same passion when it comes to the way most MUSLIM governments treat their own citizens for simple, non-terroristic crimes?
sunshine: don't you wish your president would have said something about human rights to the entire muslim world today...he had the spotlight and blew the opportunity. instead, he was apologetic to them because we waterboarded!!!!

I'd like my country to lead by example.

This country is filled with morons, right now... the morons have the power... so round and round we go... eventually enough independents will swing to the right side and this bum will not see a second term. Just keep your head up and look forward to 2012 and hopefully Romney gets the nod so this country can be the BEST in the world again and not just like every other country like this idiot wants us to be. What's the point in that? We were the best last year, why does everybody want to be on the same level as the rest of the world? Where is this country's backbone???

Yes, human rights are universal. We know that Saudi Arabia still publicly beheads criminals, cuts off the hands of thieves and allows the stoning of adulterous women (but not the men, of course!).
Many countries around the world have an appalling record of human rights abuse that's why organizations like Amnesty International exist.
so, you are wrong in your assumption that we don't look outside our borders, many of us do and try and do something about it.

Those Muslim governments have to be laughing their a$$e$ off that we would call water boarding torture.
It is too bad that incompetence is not an impeachable offense, Obama would be gone by now.
Sunshine..your involvement in Amnesty International explains a lot. Talk about a group of "blame America first" activists.
bash...water boarding is NOT torture. The butt pyramids and naked dog collars of Abu Ghraib were NOT torture (immature and stupid, but not torture), loud music and sleep deprivation is NOT torture. America does not take part in torture.

Um, I didn't elect those people nor do I pay taxes to keep them in power. Do I think many of them are despicable? Yes.
Is there much I can do about it? No.
My greatest political/scientific wish is that we find an energy source that makes oil obsolete. Islam's days of power are numbered because sooner or later we will find a substitute.

Obviously, all violence and atrocities upon man are wrong. I would think you'd agree with that. The difference is that our own government is doing the torture. We expect that of dictatorships, theocracies, and tyrants who don't have a Constitution to adhere to and haven't signed international treaties banning this behavior. We don't expect it from our own nation.

POTUS has also reserved the right to use it in "extreme circumstances". Would 9/11 qualify I wonder?
- SunshineLv 71 decade ago
Yes, I have been involved with Amnesty International for many years, and they investigate human rights violations in every part of the world. I'm especially active in women's rights in those countries, and elsewhere.

I may not like every thing my next door neighbors do . So do you think I should go to war with them ? If every one felt that way the entire human race would be at war constantly .

Careful, the Libs seem to think that the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights cover everyone, regardless of their country of residence, or their current location, even if it is not in the US.
