My eye is blood Red. How long will it take to go away?

I was attacked by a drunk former friend of mine, who also ripped a Panel off from my car. I at first gained the upper hand, but once I won I eased off only to have him poke me in the face. I was going to report him to the police, but it was a violation of his probation. I came away from the fight thinking I had won the war, but when I looked in the mirror I realized 1/4th or so of my eye was blood shot red. It's been red for a few days now, and I'm thinking about going to the doctor, but was curious as to if it would go away on it's on, because I don't see what a doctor can do. Any clue as to how long it may take? Also, if anybody is curious, his mommy and daddy are taking care of the $500 worth of damage since I didn't go to the police.
