HOW TO STOP RESTLESSNESS AND STAY ASLEEP DURING THE NIGHT?

My boyfriend CAN NOT stay asleep at night. He is CONSTANTLY moving his legs, tossing, and turning. Obviously he is VERY RESTLESS! Nothing works for him. He's tried Xanax, Ambien, anything you could possibly imagine. Any kind of medication makes it 100 times WORSE!!! He won't go to the doctors... ANY SUGGESTIONS???

Great answers! He eats well, is at a perect weight for his height, and exercises all the time. This may seem odd, but after being ''intimate'' before bedtime, actually makes his restlessness worse. He is not currently on any medication. He took one of my Xanax and Ambien to see if that would help. He has had surgical procedures at the doctors office and dentist in the past, where NO anesthetic or numbing agents work! When he is sick, he CAN NOT take any kind of cold medicine because they cause a reverse effect; causing him to become hyper.

I'm beginning to think there is nothing he can do. He claims he went to the doctor years ago for the problem and the doctor prescribed him an antidepressant, that is also used as a sleep aide. He said when he took it, he was literally awake for 3 days straight. I am a RN and I have never seen any antidepressant or sleep aide that causes someone to be awake for that long. So I don't know how true that story is....

    Tell him to exercise more. Make sure he's actually tired, really tired when he goes to bed. Having to take meds every night just to get to sleep is not good for him and soon enough he won't be able to sleep without them. Get off the meds, check his diet, make sure he's doing healthy things. Exercise lots, use all that energy and make sure he's not worried about something. Make sure he's at peace with himself. Make sure he's relaxed, that he has good coping mechanisms with the troubles of life.

    Does he eat a lot of prepared food?

    If so, switch to home cooking and use next to no salt, and see if that makes a difference.
