So, if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it still make a sound?
When we speak of "no one"--does this mean in the human context?...so if a rabbit, a mouse hears it fall......(does it still make a sound?) of course---we cannot judge the world just in the context of human sound....I'll bet...the mouse heard it and the rabbit and some other creatures ALSO heard it!!

Sound is a wave which is created by vibrating objects and propagated through a medium from one location to another. the definition does not require detection of the sound therefore no one needs to hear it for it to exist.
take another example: you cant see air, does it exist? yes
also take it from another perspective: how wud you know a tree fell if you could not hear it? someone must hv heard it, otherwise u wudnt know the tree fell.
conclusion: yes, it makes sound, failing to detect the sound is another issue. if u cud gather equipment sensitive enough, you wud notice that the tree did make a sound.

OK, In the sense of common. You simply put it like this. A twist. Here we go, stay with the pro of riddles. If the tree falls, YES it does make a sound, multiple. Doesn't matter if anyone is there to hear it or not. Investigation would answer this "impossible" question. All you have to do is think of it like a murder case, solved one, where the evidence is possible. The EVIDENCE of billions of trees falling and people knowing it makes noise is enough. You walk in where the tree fell, if there are branches on the fallen tree or on surrounding trees, in the path of the fall. Then there was noise. Several kinds. The only possible way in this world that a fallen tree would not make a noise is if it grew in levitation and fell over so slowly the was no rustling of the leaves or whistling of the rushing of air through the branches as it fell to another levitating state. Or if it was in a sound proof bubble and no noise was let out. Technically, out of the bubble there would be no noise. But inside, noise. This question is not really worth talking about. But I had to give some reality checks to those with the floating thoughts.

Sound is a traveling wave which is an oscillation of pressure transmitted through a solid, liquid, or gas, composed of frequencies within the range of hearing and of a level sufficiently strong to be heard, or the sensation stimulated in organs of hearing by such vibrations.
Different frequencies can be heard by different species, ergo just because "we" do not hear it does not mean it is not heard.
If we were to use the same logic - no one is there to hear it, therefore it made no sound - and apply it to fire then, if no one was present, when the forest burned there would not have been a forest fire, and since no one was here to witness the age of dinosaurs there were no dinosaurs.

Allow me to enlighten---- If a tree falls in the forest does it make a sound? it is not the sound that matters for it is the loneliness that the tree leaves behind. For it not be the knowledge of death man would not strive to survive. This is not a trick question nor one to be taken out of text it is simplyto make a point. The point to this question is that we are not alone even a tree in the forest is missed and so we too are not alone if we fall and die we shall be missed such as the shade and a home that that tree once provided.Cherish the ones u love for one day they too shall fall.

If something could hear the Hertz that the falling tree emitted upon hitting the ground and could perceive it as a sound, then it would indeed make a sound. It makes a sound even if no one hears it, as it will still emit sound waves, even if they cannot be perceived at the time.

Install a sound recorder in a forbidden forest, and wait like forever until a tree falls and check it out later. Just make sure there is plenty of gravity in this forest.

No, because it fell on a bear, so now we need to know if the the bear made a sound when the tree fell on it

Obviously. Just because nobody would here it doesn't mean it doesn't make noise. The tree falling and hitting the ground creates sound waves no matter what.

of course it still makes a sound..
in fact once it goes landing in the grass it makes a "thud" sound
