I use my cellphone all the time when I drive. I really think it depends on the person. I never talk without a bluetooth device.

There are those, of course who can't walk down the street, chew gum, and fart at the same time, and I think they should stay away from talking on a phone while they drive.

No more than they should drive while doing other things that can distract them from the road. I've heard it said that people are making a bigger deal about that and texting (I think texting is really stupid), than is made about regular distractions such as loud music, talking, eating, putting on makeup, disciplining children, etc which also cause accidents. It's all similar to driving under the influence.

No and I believe cell phones should be banned from the public too.

People get distracted and obnoxious when they're on the phone.

Honestly I don't care if Stephanie is pregnant with Jeff's baby while she's living with Eric. It's just annoying.

Also my friend and I were rear ended by a man who was talking on his cell phone while we were completely stopped at a red light. I suffered a really bad knee cap injury from my knee slamming into the glove compartment because he hit us going 50 MPH. His license plate was embedded in her fender and the car was deemed salvage after that.

Source(s): my pet peeve-people who talk on cell phones in public. I keep all my convos in the house. The car accident I got into on September 29, 2008 caused by a man talking on his cell phone.

Absolutely not. I've been hit three times by people who don't believe they drive like crap while on the phone. The best they do is drive more slowly thinking it's "safer," but they hold up traffic and weave in and out of the lanes anyway. I think they all need to be ticketed for reckless driving.

Science has proven that it's not possible for a human to drive well and conduct a conversation over the phone whilst driving.

NO . Once saw a man reading a book while driving in heavy traffic. Any distraction can have disasterous consequences. The more everyone pays attention to road conditions the safer we all are.

NO. What everybody else said so far.

People are already such bad, inattentive drivers. When they are on the phone, their head is in the conversation, with the other person - not in the car, driving.

Edit: Arcanum 70 - when they are doing those things, those things are in the car with them - the driver's "head" stays in the car. On paper, one can claim they are the same. In reality, there is a big difference.

Depends on the person but in general HELL NO. I know I can handle myself while I drive because I always use speaker phone, but I have been run off the road atleast 3 times by stupid bimbos with cell phones in their ears.

That would be an absolute No, I can't even walk through a store trying to text and watch where I am going so the answer is definitely No.

If cell phones are banned then they should also ban listening to the radio, eating, smoking, having children in the car, having other adults in the car that you converse with...etc. All of these things are just as much of a distraction while driving as talking on a cell phone.
