Who was God referring to when he said, "Depart, I never knew you."?

These people seemed to do what was right, prophesying in his name, etc.

Well Shirley, I'm going to take this question in a direction you probably didn't see coming.

God could not have said that quote, because he was busy not existing.

    Thank you.

Actions speak louder than words. What folks say (prophesy), and what they do, can be two different things. For example, Barack Obama and Joe Biden, (as much as I voted for them), might have promised, if elected, to end the War in Iraq, but I don't see much happening.

In the 1952 election, Dwight Eisenhower promised to end the War in Korea, and he DID. July 27, 1953, an Cease Fire was signed, and hostilities ended.

We have till July 27, 2009, to live up to that promise, or I have to concede, Eisenhower was a better man at keeping his word. I don't want to admit Republicans are better but the proof is in the pudding.

Religion is a thing of Action.. It is not enough to wish someone a 'fare well and a pat on the back. The Bible says,"Feed the Poor"... Faith without works is dead.

You need to read 2Peter 2, it clearly tell everything related to your question.

Besides, Ezekiel 18:24 "But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked man does, will he live? None of the righteous things he has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness he is guilty of and because of the sins he has committed, he will die.

So it also depends on whether they can hold till the end, not something ever did. e.g. Revelations 2:10.

Jesus is referring to all those people that did all the motions, said all the right things, and looked just like a believer, but they never had a relationship with the living Father. Everything they did was for the eyes of men.

When Jesus is refering to this he's refering to the facts that people were acting like christians but not living like christians. Examples: Cathoic Preists who've harmed boys in churches. Preachers who teach racial superiority and seperation under the guise of being "christians".

These people, the ones who look like they're walking a christian lifestyle but who are actually working for satan is the people who he's talking about

I think God is refering to people, who call themselves Christians, but do not truely believe Jesus was the son of God and except him into your heart. People who say i went to church every Sunday and did good, but are still not Christians. That is what he will tell you on judgment day, Well that is what i think.

Apparently this is related to people who use God's name only to make money. Kind of like some fake future tellers that will tell you some b.s. for your money and say that they're really doing it with God's power, while they really don't know Him at all.

It could be those that think their good deeds will get them into heaven, and denying that Christ shed His blood for them, for the remissions of sins, so that they use their good deeds as a cloak, instead being washed clean of their sins. So that the ultimate sacrifice of Christ is rejected and hoping their good deeds will find favour in the eyes of God

Jesus referred to those who claim him but don't know him and continue in their sin.

Prophesying or exorcising demons or preaching does not save a man but salvation comes through accepting the atonement and being made new.

    Deeds don't save a person.

Yes. And the people going to Heaven are equally surprised. Not a real popular sermon text.

Just doing what is right does not get any of us into heaven. There has to be repentance for sin, and accepting Christ as full payment of sin, and then obeying what God says. If we are truly Christians, we will do what He asks us to do, not what we think is good, and put His name on it.
