Is Obama or Bush to blame for the soaring deficit?

What do people make of this analysis of the deficit?

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/10/business/economy...

Personally, I was disappointed in their neglect to mention the 9-11 attacks as a "broad category" for a reason why the budget plan did not meet the budget starting in 2001. I assume it got swallowed up in the "37% attributed to the swing of the business cycle". Other than that glaring omission (my opinion), I pretty much agreed with the analysis. I believe Obama should push harder to fix the problem of the current budget deficits.

I would appreciate well thought out responses to this analysis but feel free to vent if you must!

Funny they didn't add Katrina to that total either. The Iraq war wasn't even as expensive as they make it out to because the spending would have been close to the same just not assigned to one area. The payroll and ammo and fuel would all have been used in training just billed so nobody would have cared. Once the billing goes from 30 areas to 1 then it looks like allot. Sure they have added extra to the funding but remember the last two years in Bush's term, congress denied funding our troops and ultimately caused deaths to our soldiers like it or not. I also am disappointed they left out 9-11.

The New York Times is a very Liberal biased News Paper. Bush really did not come into Presidency with a so called surplus.

This might be interesting to know also.

The Myth of the Clinton Surplus

The U.S. Treasury website that tracks the U.S. National Debt proves there was never a surplus because the national debt increased every year. This article simply explains why/how people claim otherwise for political reasons.

For those that want a more detailed explanation of why a claimed $236 billion surplus resulted in the national debt increasing by $18 billion, please read this follow-up article.

Everyone had a hand in it. The tax cut was required to get the economy going after 911 & the .Com crash. Paying too much for the wars doesn't help the economy. Granted both long & short term it is cheaper to wage war on someone else's soil. The sub prime mortgages the democrats forced the banks to make setup the crash that the steep rise in energy prices triggered. NEITHER side has the ability to think outside of the box to understand one has to change the economics of Renewable Energy for economic viability. Renewable Energy will never be able to compete directly with the energy that builds it's infrastructure at the price it was built at.

If you think this statement deserves a thumps down, show facts where Renewable Energy in major consumption areas can compete around the clock with non-nuclear energy. Remember batteries are operating in self-destruct mode & are toxic waste when they are used up.

Bush started it with this idiotic TARP bailout for the banks and their incompetent CEOs. Obama, Pelosi, McCain and everyone voted for the $750 billion bailout (i.e taxpayer gift to the banks and insurance companies).

The Obama got elected and has literally spent trillions bailing out the evil banks, his UAW buddies in Detroit and spending as if the government is orders of magnitude smaller.

The taxpayers get nothing except the knowledge that Wall Street executives are raking in the bucks, the UAW is getting car companies that they destroyed, and per-capita every American now owns many 10's of thousands thanks to this big government spending mentality.

For starters the budget deficit stated by Obama's own people is 1.8 trillion ( probably a bit higher than that ), not the 1.2 trillion this article states. So, there are some serious credibility issues here..

The soaring deficit — got going when Bush was president and the GOP still controlled Congress. Even McCain blamed the deficit on wasteful spending by the Bush administration.

"There is no more striking reminder of the need to reverse the profligate spending that has characterized this (meaning Bush) administration's fiscal policy," McCain has said.

They are both to blame, but Obama has quadrupled the 2008 deficit already.

In one day Obama put every man, woman, and child an extra $36,000.00 in debt with his give-a-way program.
