I think you're right - looks like Dolomedes tenebrosus, a Fishing Spider which has moved into more upland, drier areas than its relatives. It's not a Wolf Spider, although it may behave in a roughly similar way. They can get rather large, and make pretty good pets, if you're inclined that way. Easy to take care of, anyway.

I have simply located a nest, in my lawn, of what looks to be one hundred's of little yellow and black spiders newly hatched...Never obvious them earlier than in my lifestyles.... Being slightly involved (Yellow and Black is mainly natures caution signal) I have performed a quantity of searches... After trawling the online it looks it might be be a form of Argiope (black and yellow lawn spider) nevertheless that's a US spider and I am dwelling within the UK... Further looking shows their is a 'Wasp Spider' that is located in Contienial Europe and in many instances the South Coast of England... Which continues to be a thriller as I are living within the Midlands(England - UK) that is miles from the any coast permit best the South Coast.... Should I be charging individuals to come back and consult with my Garden to peer this infrequent web site or is there an extra form of spider out right here? They aren't detrimental to individuals are they I believe??? - my mum could be very anxiouis!!! Damon

It's a Wolf Spider, of what species I do not know. A Fishing Spider IS a Wolf Spider, but it would most possibly be in or near the water, rather than under a car.

This spider is completely harmless to humans, as are 99.9% of all spiders.

    John R is correct.

this spider, if alive, is no doubt near death from dehydration.
