What happens when a person meets with an army recruiter just to talk about the army, not to actually enlist?
Has anyone ever gone for an informational meeting? I don't plan to enlist but I'm curious about what happens at a meeting here -- I need to know for a project.
Thanks.

Call the Recruiting Station and talk with the Station Commander. Explain what you are doing and make an appointment to come in and talk. If they have been informed ahead of time, they should not try to talk you into an enlistment.

The first meeting is always just informational. You may be asked to fill out some paperwork, but this is just so that they can get a better idea of whether you are qualified. You don't have to, of course. You don't sign up for anything until you go to the processing station and sign an enlistment contract. Before that even takes place, you have to take the ASVAB test, and agree as to what job you will have, what types of special training you will get (for example airborne training), and how long your term of service will be. Even then, you can usually back out until you actually report back to the processing station a few weeks or months later.

okay seriously. all of these people are being ridiculous. every recruiter i've ever talked to has been understanding that i wasn't enlisting yet. just be like "hi, i'm doing a project and need to know more about the army. i'm not interested in enlisting, but i'd like information." or, if you go to www.goarmy.com you can request an information pack. it'll come within few days and give you plenty of info.

look dont waste your recruiters time with this without letting them know the actual reason behind the meeting. if you want to know from front to back what happens during an "ARMY interview" i will be more than happy to send you everything i have, everything i give potential applicants, and all the information i put out to them.
if this is just a school project have the recruiter come to your school and give you a "ARMY interview" in front of your teachers and/or counselors.

The Recruiter will ask you a bunch of questions that are eligability requirements and there is a 40 min sample asvab test to take if you want to. The recruiter will then tell you which programs you may qualify for and any incentives like sign on binuses. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like.
You cannot enlist in the recruiting station. You have to be processed at MEPS. So you don't have anything to worry about.

Just go to the recruiter and be honest. There is no reason why he or she would not speak to you about the Army. Unless the recruiter is to busy. If so just ask if you can talk some other time. And dont sign nothing, the recruiter will probably want your phone number or email address. Its up to you if you want to give it out but if you do you can be sure that you will hear from the recruiter later with some valuable information about your future.

just go in an be honest about it.
most recruiters are willing to help in any way and will be nice and give you all the info you are looking for that they are able to provide
prior to enlisting with the USAF I did talk with the other branches, even though I already knew which branch I wanted to join. I even told them all my plans, but I wanted to hear representation from all branches before making my final decision. none of the other recruiters were pushy or called me back.
Just be honest with them from the start. They will respect that

They try to get you to enlist and if you don't, expect multiple phonecalls.
That's their job, though. If you want information, there's none that you're not able to find online. The internet is a wonderful thing. However if you still prefer the one-on-one biased informational conversations, head to your nearest recruiter and ask away.

They say to think about it then they'll give you a call to see if your mind is made up. if not then u can ask not to be called back. I actually had scheduled for some recruiters to come to my house and talk with me and my family. They were very polite and informative but not pushy or bothersome.

They will keep trying to get you for quite a bit. Go online and do research without the hassle of someone willing to do anything to meet their quota. If you already talked the the recruiter and if they start to annoy you, go ahead and tell them you're gay. That'll scare them away big time. It sucks but that's Don't Ask Don't Tell for you!
