USAJOBS.gov, is this a legit website? I found some interesting jobs and I want to apply...?

If you are interested in working for the Federal government, usajobs.gov is the only place to begin your application process. You need to create an account and fill out an online resume. Once you have that created, you can then find jobs you are interested in and use that resume to apply - you will also most likely have to submit additional information (KSAs and a questionnaire) on the web site of the agency who has posted the job. One warning - with the increase in unemployment, the number of applications for the jobs on usajobs.gov has dramatically increased.

The website is legitimate. Be careful about who you send your identifying information to. Any job you get with the government will require a complete background check, some more thorough than others. If you see a job listing and you want to apply, you can go to the website of the company who is hiring and navigate to their human resources section to apply. That way you are not using a third party to send your information through. Many of the jobs listed link you directly to the company websites anyway.

No, in that usajobs.gov is the Black Hole for resumes and job hopes - unless you are magically qualified with the EXACT specs a job announcement is looking for (in which case, Id like to meet you and punch you in the head :), OR, you are f@#$ing the hiring manager(s), OR, your daddy is the Director for LazyAss Division in Federal Agency #69 - you will NOT ever hear from these people about being hired. Ever.

Interestingly enough, many MANY people are NOT aware of their 'junior' site -

studentjobs.gov - THIS website is tailored SPECIFICALLY for entry-level and junior employees, ie recent college grads, current students, HS kids, etc

studentjobs.gov is a better bet for those with limited work experience or fresh out of school
