Are teenagers capable of writing anything legible?

Am I the only person to be concerned about the quality of some questions posted on this site? I know that kids text a lot nowadays and therefore use a lot of abbreviations etc, but I just cannot understand a lot of the questions from teenagers. They can't spell, don't know what punctuation is and ramble on without any apparent point! Sometimes I read a really long question and still don't have a clue exactly what they are asking. Does anyone else find this worrying? Is it lack of education or just laziness?

I think it's a combination of both. Unfortunately, many people today have no idea how to put together a coherent sentence. Part of this has to do with today's career-prep oriented educational system with its frustrating insistence on math and science, making English low on the priority list. This has led to a generation that doesn't, on the whole, read very much. Of course, not reading has an impact on grammatical knowledge as well as the ability to present thoughts logically.

I'd say that was pretty "legible," wouldn't you? :)

As a teenager myself i actually find this quite insulting. Im perfectly as capable of writing things 'legible' as any adult. If you really have a problem talk to the government about education policies and make us do more english lessons than mickey mouse exams which just make the schools look better rather than benefit students in any way, shape or form. What use is an ASDAN anyway...

It is all over the place... I know adults who should know better confusing/misusing There and their... hear, here... painful to read their postings or emails. Business world is rife with adults that cannot put 2 thoughts together on paper; it is known that people think/communicate differently. I have difficulty with spoken directions but can follow written out guides easily. How I process information---can be same for some who write.

It can be some are just in a hurry, or maybe English is not their strong suite. Cannot tell age of person unless they reference something like their class or school.

Of more concern are those who expect others to do work for them---when it is obviously a school paper or homework they are seeking answers for. Or can they NOT know how to look up stuff through search engines?

I'm a teenager (just about) and find it annoying both that many other people seem to have a general lack of knowledge of...anything, and that everybody else in society groups 'young people' into one big antisocial, ignorant lump.

Try treating everyone as an individual - there are plenty of 30 year-olds who act in the way you describe, and plenty of younger people who are perfectly capable of stringing a few words together and don't go shooting cats or slitting their wrists for fun.

I'm inclined to say it's stupidity but I know it's more a product of constant texting and assuming everyone abbreviates AND does not use spell checking. They think it wastes time.

They also have a tendency to not be able to formulate sentences. Or use punctuation either.

Don't worry, the business world will weed them out.

writing punctuation comprehension and spelling went out the window as soon as mobile phones and SMS was widely available to everyone a lot more of this is going to come along and theres not much that can be done about it

What a ridiculous generalisation. Like, my God.

Shockingly - NO! Not all teenagers write like that; and if you honestly think that, you're no better or more intelligent than the one that do.

This is offensive! Fine, since a few adults were responsible for genocides, I'm going to talk as if all do. :P

Really... none of the teens I know talk as you describe. I think it's mostly with the younger, tweeeeens.
