For any K9 officers that know or any officer that can help; curiosity question...?

I am working as a police officer at a local college right now. I want to eventually get a job with the local city police and eventually work my way into the K9 unit. I'm curious though. If vacation time is available and you go on vacation, what do you do with your K9 partner?

That dog is your dog 24/7. You get that dog when its a puppy, send it to training at 14 weeks, and from then on it is literally glued to you. You go to the grocery store, he goes with you. You go on a plane trip, he comes with you (or in special cases is left with a K9 trained officer). You go to the bathroom, he waits outside in this case... lol... Being a K9 cop isnt all that great. As I said before, the dog is glued to you 24/7. Good luck though. Dont let this change your mind if you really want to be a K9 cop.

Department specific question... a very large dpt would have this arranged already. If you are the only k9 officer in the town... you'd probably have to board the dog somewhere while you are gone.
