Large bump on arm...spider bite?

I have a large bump on my arm that itches a moderate amount (probably like a 4 or 5 on a scale of 10). It's red enough that you can tell the difference between the bump and the rest of my arm. I'm guessing that it's some sort of bite because there's a spot at about the center that feels different than the rest of it and it itches more. The bump is probably about 2 inches wide and hurts a little when I push on it. It also hurts a lot when I take a shower. I don't know how I got it and I've had it for one day. Any ideas?

It's really quite impossible to determine what kind of insect bite it is without the actual insect.

Around Christmas 2 years ago I was staying at my Aunt's house by a lake and was bitten in my sleep by (guessing by doctors opinions) a brown recluse. The first few days it itched and started to swell more and more until one day, about five days after I was bitten, my entire body broke out into a rash and both my legs began to swell. ( I was bitten behind my knee on my right leg) I was in the ER and given an IV to fight infection. I was swollen, lightheaded and had a rash for a few weeks before I felt myself again.

I am not trying to scare you, just keep an eye out on the bite site and how your body is feeling. It may end up that your body will have no reaction and it could go away on its own. I would wait a day or two and see a doctor if it worsens. Hope this helps!

I think the Spider Bites discussed here are the severe one's like the bite from a Brown Recluse. I doubt it's that. My dad almost lost his leg to that and he had gangrene etc...so it's good to get it checked if it get's worse. However, that's really rare. I just had like 13 spider bites because we had the siding redone in the Summer and they bit the hell out of me! It was painful ,but I just put Cortisone on them. I believe ( but I'm not 100 % sure) that all spider bites have two fangs or three. That's been my experience anyway. If it's like a Bee sting or Mosquito, the best thing to do is make a paste out of Baking Soda and water. Rub it on it and let it suck out the poison...(probably not poison but you get what I'm saying) If it starts to really swell or you feel like your having trouble breathing then you NEED to get to a Doctor ok? I think you'll be ok ,but keep an eye on it. Also if you ARE allergic to any insect bites then you should go in right away. Good Luck!

It would be possible that this is a spider/insect bite,

pain and swelling usually disappear after 24-36 hours, and the

    welt sounds rather large.

with so many other things that can cause your symptoms

like a rash, skin condition, even infections, it is nearly

impossible to say what caused this.

you might avoid heat, and apply a topical antibiotic. ice will help.

If this worsens, you should have it examined by a doctor.

Definatly get it checked out!! If its a spider bite that needs to be checked asap! My friend recently got a spider bite on his hand and didn't get it checked out...he eventually went in and had to get it surgically removed and almost lost his whole hand (not to scare you, this is an extreme example) but get it checked!!

lets hope its no spider bite... 'cuz if it is they'll have to amputate your whole arm miss. I'm not lieing, i've known somepeople who were bitin by one... pending on the spider, of course. Don't get bitin by a brown florida spider... I think its called that.

its probably nothing but a insect bite,

but you should go check it out with your doctor just to be on the safe side

they could recommend some cream to relief it, plus to get rid of the pain
