Mercedes - fair price for tires?

I have a 2003 Mercedes S500. I just bought it a few months ago. I took it to the dealership for Service A, and they told me that I also need new tires.

They are quoting me at $1104.27 for tires mounted, balanced, and a 2 year road maintenance (in case I run over a nail). The tires are Michillin MX V4 tires.

I know that a mercedes has higher maintenance fees, but I don't want to pay more than I should or be ripped off either. Is this a good price? and if not, what should I expect to pay?

Also, how good are these tires and are they necessary for my car? I want to be safe and have a quality ride, but I don't want to to be ripped off!

Shop around several places using that exact tire, and ask them to quote you their best price.

Tire places make there $$$ by adding LOT'S of bell's and whistles.

The 2-year "maintainence" is a RIPOFF...that's why you have a spare or AAA...let it/them repair/pay for a flat when it happens.

INSIST that tire rotations AND balancing are included every 3-5 thousand miles at NO charge...or else you WALK to someone who will...MUST be in writing!!

    Good luck!

You're getting ripped off. I know how dealerships work, I used to date a manager at Mercedes.

Don't be fooled with the "warranty" and "road maintenance" because it's BS.

I checked for you, tirerack.com sells the Michelin MXV4 for $178 each... meaning around $700.

When you get the tires, just go to Just Tires and have them placed on your rims and have your wheels rotated/balanced. The labor shouldn't cost more than $150 with tax.

That depends on the tire size. Does your S500 have the standard 16" rims (225/55R16) or are they the larger 17" (225/55R17) or 18" (245/45R18) rims.
