  • What can a mother of 7 do to find a place to live?

    A friend of mine has 7 kids and needs a place to stay near Madison, TN. The problem is that she has a section 8 voucher which expires tomorrow. She needs a 4 bedroom because the law requires at least 4 bedrooms with 7 kids. A lot of people dont want to rent to her because she has 7 kids. Any recommendation on where she could live or what she could do?

  • How to designing a sink around a sewer pipe and a sump pump for my small basement bathroom? I need design help?

    I realized that I have a big pipe in my laundry room, and also, along the same way is a sump pump, which is on the floor, of course. on the other side of that wall is my bathroom, but I want to make an indention that will "host" my sink. I don't want to have to move my sump pump, so if I just indent the top portion of the wall, I think that would technically work. The problem is, I don't know if it's legal or up to code? I made a video so you could see it - here it is:

    http://youtu.be/JxwSUedRlyQ

    Please help! Can this be done from a design perspective? Will this cost me a million-gazillion dollars? My goal is to get a bathroom sink in my small bathroom. Can this be done? Is there a code violation? I live in Maryland, if that's helpful info.

    Designers and Contractors - your opinions please? This bathroom is hideous as it is now - I hardly ever use it because it's so ugly - blah!

  • Where can I find a group or multiple homeless people?

    I'm off today, and I live in Baltimore. Usually, if I have any food that is still good that I don't want to go bad and I know that I won't have time to eat it, I will give it away on my way to work to any homeless people that I pass in my commute. Sometimes I order pizza, and since I don't like second day pizza, any leftover - I will give it to someone on the way to the work the next morning. So, that's all nice, but I want to do more on my own. I could go join an organization, but I want to do some stuff on my own.

    I'm thinking of putting together my own homeless packs and homeless meals. If I made 30 or 40 lunch meals today - where do I go to find a group of homeless folks? I am sure that I can find a few, but how do I find multiple?

    I need ideas on how to find people who need it most. I want to make a difference on my own so that I don't have to wait for an organization to do something.

    So... where can I find a group or multiple homeless people?

  • algebra help please - with $63 total, if there were 4 times as many dimes as nickles, how many of each coin?

    My mother is taking an algebra class. I'm trying to help her. I used to be good with algebra. I used some math and plotted through different answers, so I know the answer is nickels=140 and dimes=560.

    But I'm going wrong when I try to figure it out.

    This is what I have.. tell me what I'm doing wrong?

    I converted 63 bucks into cents only so that I work with whole number and not decimals (I hate decimals.)

    so attempt #1:

    6300=4n+n (where n=nickels)

    then I put in the values of the cents

    6300=4n(10)+n(5)

    6300=40n+5n

    6300=45n

    n=144.4444444?????

    that can't be right. I'm sure I was suppose to get a whole number?! Right?!

    Okay, attempt #2 (with decimals):

    63.00=(0.10)4n+(0.05)n

    63=0.4n+0.5n

    63=0.9n

    n=70

    I know that's not right either. Because 4 times that would be 280dimes with is 28.00

    70 nickels=a few bucks... this doesn't total 63 bucks.

    Help?

  • Cheapest privacy fence idea?

    I already have a 3 foot high chain linked fence, but I want some more privacy in my backyard. On one side I have a nosy neighbor who thinks she has to talk to me every single time I walk about the door, and on the other side there is a yapping little dog who doesn't start barking until he sees me. I thought about planting bamboo along the perimeter, but I was recently advised that it will grow out of control and I won't be able to maintain it. Is there an easy way to cheaply make a fence? Maybe dead bamboo sticks that I can tie to the chain linked fence?

  • Did the FHA program change on June 11th of this year?

    Does this sound right?? Did the FHA program change on June 11th of this year?

    I got something in the mail about refinancing my FHA loan with a streamlined refi. So, I called out of curiosity. This is a real place, and it happens to be located down the street from my job, so I asked if I could come see them in person, and they welcomed it.

    He said all FHA loans are doing the same thing right now, and that it has changed for everyone who does FHA loans as of June 11th of this year... so I wanted to check with someone else. Here is what he said:

    - I can get a streamlined FHA loan, and not pay any closing costs or appraisals. He said:

    1) that the old Upfront Mortgage Insurance Premium (which was a fee to FHA) used to be 1.75% and now it is 0.1%. So, there is a refund from the Original loan.

    2) usually there is a monthly fee of 1.25%, but in this program for the FHA, the monthly fee is 0.55% for a monthly mortgage insurance premium. He uses the refund from the upfront and monthly mortgage insurance premium to pay the closing costs, which is why I don't have to pay the closing costs.

    Now, my current interest rate is 6.85%, which I know is high. However, I thought that I couldn't refinance because I was upside down. He said that because it is a streamlined loan, that I don't need an appraisal, and that he was only restricted in that he couldn't refinance me for more than my loan amount.

    He also said that he can get me a new interest rate of 3.75%.

    What do you think? Have you heard of this new FHA program? I don't want to be scammed. I do like the fact that they have a real business, and i made an appointment to visit tomorrow afternoon. He had me to go hud.gov and look them up under lenders... does this make them legit?

    What questions should I ask when I meet him tomorrow?

  • What color goes best with this black and white bedroom?

    This is my guestroom bedding. I want to paint or accessorize with an accent color. I thought of a blood red, but would like to have other ideas besides the reds and pinks. What color would you suggest?

  • What can I do to upgrade my bathroom?

    My basement bathroom needs a new look.

    It currently has concrete walls and an ugly basement window. It feels very cold and not comfortable.

    I'd like to put up dry wall, but there is barely enough room for the toilet - Adding the studs would reduce precious inches from the size of the room.

    I don't want to re-position my toilet though. What can I do to make it look nicer? Any design ideas or renovation ideas that won't break the bank?

    Be specific. Thanks in advance for your input. Here's the pic: www.uniksolutions.com/bathroom.jpg

  • College Students - would you live off campus in this townhouse?

    College students: I own a nice 3 bedroom townhouse with a finished basement less than 2 miles of a large major university. (I went to that school too.)

    1- would college students be interested to live in it? (I'm thinking that I'd have 4 girls or 4 guys - each with their own room, and one in the basement.)

    2. would you be willing if you paid the same as the dorm cost, and you can pay per semester? (the nearby school is $2200 a semester (end of January-May)

    3. what if you shared a room? The advantage would be privacy, no crewfew, larger space than a dorm.

  • How would you redesign my kitchen?

    Check out my kitchen - http://www.uniksolutions.com/kitchen.jpg (See the picture.)

    What would you do to my kitchen to redesign it? I'm trying not to spend a lot of money, so Im looking for a major overhaul at a cheap price?

    Would you paint the cabinents and add new hardware? The cabinents are in good shape, I'm just scared that if I replace the hardware, the stain will show an imprint where the old hardware is.

    Any ideas?

  • I have a home warranty which essentially repair insurance - is that cost tax deductible?

    I spent $400 on the yearly cost for my home warranty this year. Also, there was a $60 fee each time a technicians comes out to do a repair. Are these costs tax deductible?

    (For those who don't understand what a home warranty does, basically, it's repair insurance for items in my house. It covers all my major appliances, plumbing, electrical, water heaters, sump pump, etc. If any of those breaks, I can call a technician, and they will come out and fix it - only $60 each time they come out.)

  • Mercedes - fair price for tires?

    I have a 2003 Mercedes S500. I just bought it a few months ago. I took it to the dealership for Service A, and they told me that I also need new tires.

    They are quoting me at $1104.27 for tires mounted, balanced, and a 2 year road maintenance (in case I run over a nail). The tires are Michillin MX V4 tires.

    I know that a mercedes has higher maintenance fees, but I don't want to pay more than I should or be ripped off either. Is this a good price? and if not, what should I expect to pay?

    Also, how good are these tires and are they necessary for my car? I want to be safe and have a quality ride, but I don't want to to be ripped off!

  • Is your Gas and Electric bill high?

    My Gas and Electric bill was almost $400. It is normally about $200, so mine has doubled! I live in Baltimore, MD. Three questions for you:

    1 - Where do you live?

    2 - How much is yours normally?

    3 - How much is it lately?

    I'm just trying to figure out if Baltimore Gas and Electric is ripping Baltimore off. I'm wondering how much Gas and Electric has gone up from everyone else in the country

  • Why can't I liquidate my 401k? I'm not allowed?

    Because I have some debt, I want to liquidate most of my 401k. I have 11,000 of my own money in (doesn't include my company's matched amount that I can't touch until I'm vested. I owe about $9,000 debt that I can't wait to get rid of!

    I tried to liquidate my 401k. I realize that it will cost me serious tax penalties and other financial penalties, but I'll take them to be completely debt free - besides, I'm losing SO much money on my 401k - I might as well make it work for me somewhere else. (I'm young and financially disciplined now, and still have time to build my retirement.)

    However, when I tried, they told me that I have to have an approved financial hardship to liquidate. This means that I'd have to almost lose my house, or have a medical condition, or need to bury a loved one. And they want the proof, or I can't liquidate.

    Is this right? This is my money! Is this legal? Can they do this? How do I get my money?
