Cheapest privacy fence idea?
I already have a 3 foot high chain linked fence, but I want some more privacy in my backyard. On one side I have a nosy neighbor who thinks she has to talk to me every single time I walk about the door, and on the other side there is a yapping little dog who doesn't start barking until he sees me. I thought about planting bamboo along the perimeter, but I was recently advised that it will grow out of control and I won't be able to maintain it. Is there an easy way to cheaply make a fence? Maybe dead bamboo sticks that I can tie to the chain linked fence?

Bamboo actually makes and excellent privacy fence, wind break and sound barrier. You must select the correct variety. Begin by researching clumping, non-invasive bamboo. You then have to find a variety that is suitable to your region. Most varieties do better in southern climates. There are some that will work in more northern regions. Most clumping bamboo gets about 5' wide. You need to not plant it too close to the fence. Plant 5' away from the fence. Keep in mind that bamboo will get fairly tall. Check mature size for both diameter and height before purchasing. Another option would be ornamental grass. Again your selection must be suitable to your region. Grasses do not get as tall.
Tying bamboo to your fence will not be cheap unless you have a very large supply of free bamboo. It will also require replacing in just a few years.

Go to your local thrift shop and buy several top sheets, then just attach them to the chain link fence with some metal wire on the four corners. Instant, affordable privacy option! No, I agree with the first answer!

Yes, you can go for option like wooden privacy fence over chain link fence. Fence contractors will suggest you better designs for wooden privacy fence. Or to reduce noise from neighbour you can install acoustic sound barrier fence for your backyard. It will reduce noise coming from outside of home. Local Fence Contractors like TotalFence Inc will suggest you trending designs in privacy fence.
