Fantasy Baseball: What to do with Matt Weiters!?!?

Like many other fantasy team owners, I have been hanging on to Matt Weiters all season and I'm happy to say that he's now playing for the majors.

So far, his stats look like this:

H/AB R HR RBI SB K AVG OBP

10/43 3 0 0 0 11 .233 .267

I am in last place in my league and my only goal right now is to move up to the 6th spot (eligible for playoffs). I am really suffering in runs, homeruns, and rbi's so I am wondering should I sacrifice Weiters and pick up some free agent that would benefit me in the long run??

I know 43 at bats isn't really enough to predict his performance for the rest of the season but I dont want to hang onto him and "hope" he does better while the FA list is getting picked clean.

What should I do with Matt Weiters???

The truth is he is quite over hyped. He is a tremendous talent and just like all tremendous talents the "experts" assume that the productivity will come over to the majors right away. Unfortunately this is not always the case. He is in a tough division. He has to battle against the Yankees and Sox's thats is hard enough without throwing in The Rays who have great pitching and the Jays can also pitch well. If he hasn't started hitting now i say drop him. He wont be a fantasy impact player for at least another year i feel it takes a long time to adjust to MLB pitching and the fact he is in the hardest division in my opinion i think it will take him a bit longer plus he has a ton of pressure on him. Drop him and pick up a Cather that will produce or maybe trade him to someone who is crazy for him i know there at least one manager in your division who wants him.

That really depends on how desparate you might be.

It seems you're very desparate at this point and might need some points. What I'd do is go to the Available Players list and pick up another decent hitting catcher who can get some HR's/RBI's for you like Rod Barajas (TOR) or Miguel Olivo (KC) if they're available. John Baker (FLA) is a good left-handed hitting catcher too.

    Hope this helps.

If you desperately need runs and RBI's then you are gonna have to drop him and pick up a free agent. If you can afford to wait a little bit, give him a chance and see how he does for the next month. I think his AVG will go up and the strikouts will go down
