Is it too pushy to ask my OB for a medically unnessary 3D ultrasound?

Question

I called all the 3D/4D places and they want so much money $100-$400 because they set it to music and give you a dvd and 50 pictures and so on. I just want a single print out to put into my fiance's card for fathers day i cant afford to spend so much for stuff i dont really need.If they say yes they will do it how much could a single print out cost round about?

I dont think it would be a problem to ask. Dont know what they'll say though. Where I go, my friend has the same doc as me, and she said she didnt have to pay any out of pocket $ for her 3d ultrasound, I'm hoping it goes the same for me :)

They won't do a 3d ultrasound upon request. Insurance companies do not cover it. It's pretty much just a luxury during pregnancy. If you have a credit card, why don't you charge it if you really want to have it done? You can pay it off over a few months time rather than all at once.

Yes, in my opinion.  If you want father's day cards so bad, suck it up and pay the money or don't do it.  Why should they do things they don't normally do just becasue you can't afford something you want?

I am not sure but have you tried looking at different places near you? You should google it because I too thought they were all expensive but they have specials and stuff like one place near me has a fathers day special for 99 and another place is 99 dollars for monday through friday if you mention the special and you get a few pics and a dvd.

They will do it but you still need to pay for it out of pocket and it's not the prints that cost it's using the machine so it's still going to be the same.

I know at my doctor's to have it done is $150 but everywhere is different. but the cost will come out of your pocket not the insurance

I don't think they will agree to do it for just a single picture. I'm pretty sure you either get the package deal or you don't get it at all.

A hospital/docs would easily cost more than $100-$400 for doc fees, tech fees, the billing dept, etc.

You can push all you want. They will only do one if it's medically necessary. Do you understand that we are in a recession? Why drive up insurance costs for selfish reasons? Just be thankful your baby is healthy.

They wont do it unless there is a reason to, and for one picture for a fathers day card, not good enough reason for them to even consider it.

Insurance only coves 2 ultrasounds. Getting another one for your enjoyment is up to you and your wallet.
