Why do you think there is more outrage over illegal immigration than outsourcing of jobs?
Is it because if people come here they are utilizing our social services? Is that where the additional outrage comes from?
Do you think that the issue of illegal immigration gets people more upset than outsourcing? Other than the social services, is there any reason why these shouldn't be equally troubling trends when it comes to job losses?
Ducky: but you've got to admit that not everything legal is right and not everything illegal is wrong. Legality aside and looking at the issue in purely utilitarian and practical terms, aren't these two issues fairly similar?
Ida: Who is "we"? And I am referring to sort of what appears to be a general societal mindset as expressed through the media and many members of this particular forum, not the ideals of my specific social group.
Mares: Worked 12 hours yesterday. Took today off because I was sick. And I wouldn't call this chatting. :)
Rob: True, and see that's what I figured, that it had to do with the social service they get.
I wonder, do the low wage countries that we export jobs to also receive foreign aid that helps to fund their educational and health systems? If that's the case, then does it bring them closer in terms of negative impacts?
Tony: I had not heard about that particular bill, but I have heard about the problems farm owners have had with finding people to take jobs. Greenhouse owners have the same problem.

It's ignorance and lack of knowledge on the issue......and many times just plain racism.
Illegal immigrants do use SOME social services, but not very many because they have been banned from most Government Programs since 1996 when Congress passed (and President Clinton signed) the welfare-reform law known as the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act. From then on, only citizens or legal immigrants, such as those with a Green Card, were eligible for federal benefits.....so that claim is a bunch of lies.
The people that complain about them so-called taking our jobs are the ones online that would never even think of taking those jobs......they are too used to the easy cushy jobs. They keep this rhetoric going in hopes that someone else would get angry and fight for those jobs.....LOL. It's not happening, and will never happen even in this recession, or there wouldn't be a need to push for the AGJOBS BILL 2009.

Illegal Mexicans Are The Least Of Your Problems
Cons of outsourcing and kicking out all the Mexicans:
* The jobs are completely lost to another country.
* Rich people get richer by reducing costs.
* Instead of helping people already in America, you send money to India and Mexico.
* Every time you get on the phone for Microsoft support, you claim to barely understand the guy.

Outsourcing is not good either but it is not illegal. A company has the right to decide where it is going to contract people. I think it is penny wise and pound foolish to have outsourced the call center jobs to India. The Indian people are abused and stressed out (not to mention unable to deliver good service due to the lack of training, work conditions and too far away from the problems in the U.S. that make people call) and Americans as a whole, are disgusted and annoyed when they have to call and get a worker from another country who is difficult to understand and can't solve the problem. I switched my ISP because of that TWICE. What is the point of tech support if they are useless?
But I don't agree that the reproduction levels in the Western world warrant illegal immigration. The fact is 40,000 children die everyday they say due to starvation. There are more than enough people in the world already--the resources are just poorly distributed. We have enough in the world to feed everybody but it is not well distributed. That is why we have illegal immigration and all of these children starving and dying.

A lot of the outrage is from the abuse of services. It's also about disobeying the law. Not speaking, reading or writing in English and forcing us to provide bi-lingual pamphlets. Overcrowding our schools.
Having to wait for ER treatment. Demanding benefits they are not entitled to. Taking jobs from the poor, elderly and teens and forcing more Americans on welfare.
It's outrage over being invaded for the benefits here instead of forcing their gov to provide for them in their own countries. How cowardly.
Out sourcing jobs is just as destructive to our economy. Those are American companies. If they want American protection and tax benefits they should be made to stay in the US and employ Americans. Foreign workers should be brought in only if there is no American qualified for the job. Unfortunately that is not always the case.

Outsourcing of jobs just removes a job from an American citizen. Illegal immigration takes an available job out of the pool and means one more unemployed citizen and it means the taxpayer has to bear the cost of their health care (see Trailblazers Healthcare for those of you who don't think illegals get healthcare), their children get medicaid and free education, foodstamps, and free cell phones at governement expense. Then illegals ship the money they earn abroad and out of the U.S. economy forever. All in all illegal immigration is much more destructive.

One of your answers noted that it was ignorance of the issues, and I think that's pretty close to accurate if you consider the following: In order for culture or "a culture" to survive they must reproduce (I think that's agreed), the rate of reproduction estimated is 2.1 children per family. Now even though my figures are not exact they are pretty darn close; the United States currently stands with the average family at 1.8 children per family (highest in the world but still not enough to sustain our population), along with both illegal and legal immigrants our re-population figure jumps to 2.6 children per family. If you gage this against Russia, Europe or Great Britain, only Britain will have enough children per family to sustain, but the majority will be Muslim, both legal and illegal.
Now understanding that civilization will decline if we don't populate, are we prepared to just lay down a disappear or would we rather the immigrants take the jobs left vacant due to outsourcing, and bear in mind (identification and SS fraud not included in this conversation) most illegal aliens from S. America work American jobs and pay taxes.
So bit ch if you like but try to grasp the realities of the 21st century.

Illegal immigration is a horrible thing for MANY reasons: the fact that they undercut working Americans is simply ONE of them. One of many. Outsourcing....I don't like it either. But it IS legal and it occurs because the Americans who own stocks want the companies to have the highest possible return, which comes from making the most profit. When that doesn't happen....then the companies outsource. Unions are NOT helpful in this situation. UAW would rather see GM go out of business then take wage cuts. No wonder the Japanese auto makers are kicking our butts! They make a better, cheaper product. Its awfully complicated, no question. And it isn't anywhere quite as simple or single issued as you make it.

I don't think there is - maybe it is just who you hang around with. We pretty much hate all aspects of globalization.

maybe it's as simple as the fact that outsourcing jobs is not "illegal"
