    Cross multiply a/b=c/d would be ad=bc Multiple the numerator of one by the denominator of the other, etc. then set them equal to one another.

    (x+1)(x-12)= x(-7)

    Now FOIL the left side.

    x^2 -12x+1x-12= -7x

    x^2 -11x - 12 + 7x=0

    x^2 -4x -12=0

    (x - 6 )(x +2 )=0

    x-6=0 or x+2=0

    x=6 or x= -2

    x + 1 / x = -7 / x - 12

    Is it (x + 1) / x = -7 / (x - 12) or x + (1 / x) = (-7 / x) - 12

    you need to be more specific.

    just multiply all terms by x and you get a quadratic equation.
