Does the fan use more energy?
Someone at work told me that the fan (blower) on the air conditioner uses more energy when it kicks on and off than it does when it's set to run all the time. Is that true?

He is using internet smartass.
Every motor uses more energy to start on not just A/C fan or blower.
It is because of initial resistance or drag motor needs to overcome to get to steady RPM. Even standard light bulb does that though it's just for a fraction of a second.
Normally on average electric motor is using about 30% more energy when starting up but that usually take only couple of seconds.
Not so much when you turn it off. When switch is off there is no more energy to use.
