is he trying me out or being lazy?
i have had my tb for 1 yr and a half. Hes my first horse and a true gentleman under saddle. He did take some tough love at first because he did trying making me scared so he could handle me around but he soon learned im not to be challenged.
he has never bucked or reared without it being a bird that has scared him or something like that.
but lately if he is turned on the left lead in canter he throws a lil hissy fit by throwing his head down and tries to buck, i always get him back up but then he tries to rear.
now he hasn't always been balanced in the canter and acts like its a big task to do. But im worried he might be trying me out again to scare me.
I thought i might get him physically checked over so i got the dentist, chiropractor, vet and the farrier out to do him over and he passed everything. The chiro did say his hip was not even and he fixed that.
So what could this be??
He could do it a month ago now hes being silly.
When we goto turn he will lower his head and i can feel him get boucnier unless i pick up the right rein so he can't swerve out of it. this annoys me, hes has been off work for a month just in case he was sore but he shows no signs of being incapable of doing work. Hes still a hoon in the paddock with his mates and loves to roll and play.
he doesnt act up in the trot and keep a lovely frame while trottin but everything is lost in canter.
help?
he was checked by the dentist/vet a week ago
farrier a week ago
and by the chiro today
oh and yes i did have the saddle fitted too

It probably is a balance, discomfort issue. Even if there's nothing obviously physically wrong, that doesn't mean he doesn't feel a little stiff or tweaked going that direction when you ride. Could be something about the way you lean when going that way.
I think the best way to check is let someone else you trust ride him and see how he goes for them. If he goes well for them, you get back on and try, if he's back to acting silly, chances are you could be interfering in some way--most of us are one-sided and unbalanced too! See if your friend spots anything funny you're doing differently.
Good Luck!

could've been the hip, definitely. recently, the lovely tb mare i've been retraining decided that bending to the right was definitely not an option. i checked her back myself and she has at least 3 vertebrae out of whack.
if the chiro worked on your horse, you shouldn't be cantering for a while anyway. usually if something is fixed, the general suggestion is to do anywhere from 4-8 weeks of riding in straight lines in a 2-point at a walk and trot. that means little or no bending and no cantering. it sucks, but if it helps the horse, then so be it.
next time the chiro comes out, ask if they can show you how to check at least along your horse's spine to see if there's anything wrong. It only takes a minute to learn how to do it and what to look for.

well i would post off that diagonal for a little bit so it will build up that muscle. i would just keep working him on that side. and if he does not get better i would have someone come and check your saddle fit, saddle fit can be a REALLY bid issue. Sometimes her will not be sore but when you are riding for have your weight in the saddle i hurts his back. i would also try lunging him on that side and see how he does. if he is not doing that any more and if he is i would get the saddle checked this really sounds like that saddle could be the problem.
Good Luck
P.S. if you need more info about anything that has to do with the saddle please feel free to contact me via email sabsstall101@yahoo.com. I have done a lot of research on saddles and saddle fit.

You said you had him checked by a farrier, a vet, a chiropractor, and a dentist? How long ago? I ask because he sounds like he is still in pain. If possible, take him to an equine hospital facility and have him thoroughly checked out. They have all sorts of instruments and tests and ought to be able to help you. If that rules out anything physical, then I would suggest enlisting the help of a trainer.
Hope that helps..
