Difference between taste and bias in music...?
Just wondering, ran into this question a while ago.. If you listen to a type of music from the beginning, let's say rock.. and you happen to like classical music, but like rock more because it is distorted, has more effects, more relaxed etc etc. So you run these two together, like let's say there is a Classical song and a Rock cover of it. You happen to like the cover more.. What would be the line between taste and bias? Just because you obviously like rock more, and generally like the cover better, does it really mean you are biased because your taste is more in rock music than classical. What is the defining line between these two?

bias: A preference or an inclination, especially one that inhibits impartial judgment.
taste:
The faculty of discerning what is aesthetically excellent or appropriate.
I guess the line is drawn where you can no longer be objective about the music or musician's excellence, because, for example, you preferred one type (to the exclusion) of the other. I don't believe you possess that bias, since as you state, you like classical music. You recognize its aesthetic value. You just prefer rock in this instance, and perhaps in many instances.

I evaluate music truthfully, yet that doesn't recommend that I must be all that purpose approximately it. If i like it - i like it. If i do no longer, i do no longer. i think of I even have the capacity to be certain no count if or no longer a band or artist is gifted - routinely, interior the common or the comosition or lyrics, etc - yet there are truthfully bands who i'm able to renowned as being gifted yet want to no longer pay attention to. Yngwie Malmsteen, Megadeath, extremely Prince, and an outstanding sort of Led Zeppelin are examples of bands that i understand are gifted yet do in basic terms no longer do it for me most of the time. good question! I think it would still come under you personal taste. A bias is more like when you lean toward a particular thing because maybe you know the person involved in one side of it. A personal interest or emotional attachment to one side makes you lean toward that side.

if you like the song because it sounds good... and everything like that. then it is taste.
if you like the song just because it is rock, then it is being bias.
